Hi folks,

I'm a frequent lurker, and just registered today. I'm a daily fountain pen writer and have a modest working collection in rotation. I introduced my wife to fountain pens about a year ago and my interest has really taken off. I'm curious about Indian ebonite pens -- have been reading lots of posts here and am close to pulling the trigger. I would certainly be interested in a future group buy and will be checking that forum regularly.

I like to swap and tune nibs (novice level micro mesh work) and have had fun hacking Hero and Jinhao. A small project involved replacing the ink sac on a Hero 616 with a converter using shrink tubing. http://i.imgur.com/fPgYPLE.jpg

Cheers

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

If you haven't been there already, Fountain Pen Revolution is a wonderful place for Indian pens. The owner Kevin is so incredibly helpful with literally anything you could ask. I own most of their line of pens and love them all. Tell him Josh Andrews sent you (No idea if he actually knows my name but that's how personal he makes it feel)

I'd be happy to answer any questions.

Welcome from another newbie,

Hello and welcome!

I'm looking at some, well a particular model to be honest :D, Indian pens as well, interesting that not a lot of people post about them (or better to say probably not in English) but those seem to like them a lot. I have my eyes on the Ranga bamboo model in clear acrylic. That pen looks really intriguing!

Welcome !

When I expressed an interest in pen of India, I found a lot of eager, generous help. (but, of course, I am very likable.) Good luck.

If you're looking to get your hands on some quality, but more afforadable Indian pens, check out Fountain Pen Revolution - great line of pens they make themselves and a nice selection of a wide range of other Indian pens. Can't beat the customer service.

I've got almost all of their pens and have used all of their nibs.

If aren't already hip to the site, I'll be happy to answer any questions.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
