Kaweco Nibs And Customer Service

It's mainly known that Kaweco nibs suffer from a baby's bottom.

Recently I bought a sport AL with a medium nib. It skipped a lot. It had the baby's bottom. I repaired the nib by myself and it writes prefect now. But I was so frustrated that still Kaweco hasn't this problem under control.

I emailed Kaweco about this problem. Soon I received an email from Kaweco. They promised me to send me a free nib of my own choice. A few days later I received a package from Kaweco. It contained a fine nib in a small tube, an old style postcard, a sticker and a small user manual. All free of charge!

I choose a fine nib and it writes perfectly. This I call customer service!

I have several Kaweco fountain pens (about 20) and just had a problem years ago with the nib once and the customer service was just perfect. So it is nice to hear that it is still very good.

Sadly my new Kaweco fine nib had again the baby's bottom problem. It skipped a lot after a while. Again I had to work on it.

The problem with kaweco is that they pair the same feed with all of their nibs, regardless of how greedy or frugal the nib might be.

Naturally a fine nib will consume way less ink than a 2.3. It makes no sense to supply both nibs with an exactly identical feed. It may work properly on the fine nib but will skip like crazy after a few lines because the feed cant keep up.

Ive given up on Kaweco because of this fundamental problem. I instead use all my kaweco nibs with a noodlers nib creaper with a juicy feed ( and also their latest offering, the Boston Safety).

Kaweco nibs are produced by Bock, if I'm not mistaken.

That's right. Therefore Kaweco should give Bock the order to produce nibs without the baby's bottom problem, I think.

  • 2 weeks later...

I purchased a Dia2 with a F nib, but I didn't like it performance, I didn't have baby bottom, but the flow wasn't good.

After several months I've got a M nib and I like a lot, I think they should have better Quality Control.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
