My Small Collection Of ... What?

I began finding these particular Sheaffers some 30+ years ago, beginning with the brown one, with years elapsing between each find; so I figure they're somewhat rare.

Now, I've asked around over the years, and even posted a query on this forum back in ... '07? But to date, I'm still not sure exactly what model of Sheaffer I have. The nib is a number '59', and one presentation on Youtube referred to it as a "Sovereign II", but so, also was a different pen with White dot, and a number '79' nib (if memory serves).

The number '500' is on all barrels, the number '59' on both styles of nib (plain gold and two-tone), and they're all lever-fillers.

The closest real documentation of the pen I've found so far is an illustration of the nib (or close to it) on Richard Binder's page http://www.richardspens.com/?page=ref/nibs/triumph.htm chronicling the Triumph nib.

So, are these pens Sovereigns, Sovereign IIs (what would be the difference between a model and it's "II" designation)?

Does the oddball, funky-looking nib make it a different model?

Are these rare 1941 Triumph prototypes?

Should I not agonize about this and just get a life?

BTW, the nib writes smooth and slick as any Crest, TD or Snorkel conical nib I've handled...

So, any help with specific ID would be appreciated.

TIA, and a Happy and Prosperous 2018 to all.

Best Regards
Paul

I've been looking on my computer for the Sheaffer sheet on "wire band" pens that I used to distinguish one from another. Can't find it. There are a dozen similar models, but only one with that 59 nib, called the Admiral if I remember correctly. I think they came as lever or vac fillers.

Wow, I've never seen these with the tiny triumph nibs! Hope you find your answer!

Thank you, Robert, for that great link.

Irony of ironies, the thread also references The Pen Sac Co. catalog. I've been a customer since the first day. The company was founded by two of my best and earliest friends in pen-collecting, Bob Tefft and Peter Amis. Their catalog, with all the Sheaffer models with nib numbers, has been there for all these years and, of course, it's the one place I didn't look. Just goes to show ya, sometimes the answer's right under your nose ....

Best Regards
Paul

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
