Happy New Year everyone!

2018 also being Pilot Namiki's 100 year anniversary, does anyone know of any special pen(s) to commemorate the occasion?

My new year's resolution is to save all my money and get this pen!

Happy New Year!

 

And oh yes! I have been waiting for this year 2018 for a long time. The Pilot 100th Anniversary! Pilot is probably my favorite stationery/writing instruments company ever. Even before fountain pens - I still remember my favorite mechanical pencil as an elementary school kid was a Pilot Shaker. Still have it, although the rubber grip has become sticky with age...

 

Haven't heard any news regarding the 100th Anniversary pen, though. I'm also wondering if they will release more than one model. Eagerly looking forward to that.

I think it's quite easy to predict what Pilot would produce based on their previous track record. For their 95th birthday, I believe there was more than one pen. For their 100th, I am sure there will be more than one pen as well. It's a matter of how much money you have to spend on their product.

 

The most obvious one are the super crazy expensive Namikis. either a single Emperor or a set of Emperors that will run anywhere fro 10k to 50k. That's already sort of confirmed because it's said their production of the higher end makie pens have been very limited this year because all the artists have been tasked to create the birthday pen.

 

There will also probably be pens in the $500 - $1000 range for regular folks who when pushed are able to dig deep and spend a little more. It's probably going to be one of the standard brass bodies pens with some beautiful finishing. There will also probably be a commemorative VP too as part of this celebration.

 

I think what makes me curious is whether they will come out with a completely new model with some new technical innovation. The last time they did it was the Justus and that's already about 4-5 years ago. This is more my cup of tea as I am not really one to spend many Ks for maki-e.

I would love to see a Super 500, for sure! I doubt there would be another M90. They did fall short on production... which is why the inventory dried up and resale value doubled. I think because they never did an export batch, just JDM. I sure wish they'd make another batch! I just don't want to pay $500 for one, when my first and only was $125 for NIB, from a Japanese retailer on eBay.

Im a big Pilot fan also. I love how you still have a Pilot pencil from grade school. Wow.

 

I too am looking forward to seeing what nice specials theyll be offering this year, though I wont be getting any of the super expensive maki-es, but one of the middle range pens as described by Gerigo if one strikes my fancy.

I have not had a problem before in years of posting but lately anytime I post and type out a contraction using the apostrophe, the system software apparently deletes it as you can see from this post. This has happened to some of my other recent posts also. Has anyone else experienced this? I am using an iPad if that makes any difference. ]

Didn't you get the memo?

 

Apostrophe's now are used to make plural's, not contraction's. :D

Very interesting! I didn't know this. I read somewhere (if it was correct info) that they were going to make 9000 (90th anniversary) and that 900 would be exported to the US. Is there a figure anywhere of how many they actually made? Just curious and thanks in advance for any info!

That sounds believable, given that its their 100th anniversary. But will these pens all be maki-e pens? I was hoping for another MYU reissue, since its been such a cult favourite.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
