What Model Of Caran D’Ache Is This?

And more important, what refill does it use? The eBay seller called it a Fibre-tip roller-ball, but its not showing up in my searches. FWIW, it really does say Caran d Ache in tiny letters around the barrel. Thank you for any help or advice.

Simplest thing to do is visit the Caran d'Ache website and check on their refills. The "fibre tip" is not a roller ball. It's kind of like a mini marker. They still sell them. See Caran d'Ache Fibre Tip refill. Presumably they made just one style refill with the fibre tip, so it should fit yours. But you may want to contact the company to double-check.

Thank you! I had ordered one via Amazon identical to the one on the website you pointed me to, which I had already found. It didnt fit. Foolish me, I tried to shave it slightly with a razor to get rid of the very slight change in circumference. Cut right through the whole thing. It may turn out that what I bought was a frankenpen, especially since the end of the gripping section is chrome rather than gold, like the rest of the pen, which seems a bit out of character for Caran dAche. Anyway, Ive ordered another from the manufacturer and have foresworn the use of razor blades to modify it. In the meantime, Ive discovered that dropping a spring into the end of the barrel allows me to use a Parker gel refill. Im hoping Parker makes a fibre refill in the same shape. Again, thanks.

That will be "negative". Parker used to have a fibre tip refill, but they are long gone, and they were not in the same shape as their rollerball refills which are in different shape than their ballpoint refills (aka "Parker G2" format).

 

Parker rollerball refills are still available if you shop around, but I would suggest trying one of those in a brick & mortar shop as they are quite a bit thicker than Parker G2 refills. So unless g2 rattles around in the pen...

Sorry to hear the Amazon refill ordered didn't work. Was it Caran d'Ache branded?

I've also done some refill mods to get them to fit, including a little "shaving" of the plastic collar using a razor. Mostly had good luck with that. But in one case it failed... as the plastic "collar" was thin and responsible for holding onto the metal tip, so the tip fell off after I shaved off too much. The "spacer" idea is a great alternative, using a shorter but compatible refill. A spring can work, but I've found the plastic "plug" often found on Parker style refills can work really well (just pull it off a dried out refill and use it with the new one), of course only with a static refill pen design (not "click" actuated).
