Hello From Las Vegas, Nv

Hi everyone!

Just introducing myself as I plan to creep around the site for a while! I live in Las Vegas and have always had terrible handwriting. A year or two ago I bought my first fountain pen, a LAMY Safari, then a few other cheap pens to try to get a feel for them. I had purchased a few books on handwriting and even watched the Lloyd Reynolds writing series someone had posted on YouTube to try and get better with every intention of someday having writing skills others would envy. I got discouraged quickly and gave it up for a while but I'm back!

I'm hoping to use this site for information and motivation to keep me going. It also doesn't hurt that I got a beautiful new MB from my wife for Christmas :-)

See you all around!

Welcome !

Write casual notes to your wife. Write to friends and family. There is no shame in admitting to

them that you like to practice you penmanship. Write slowly. Shape each letter to be the way

you wish it to appear. If you encounter a written character that you like better than your own,

use it.

Try playing your favorite music, while writing letters. I like "Big Country" and "The Magnificent

Seven",

Thanks, glad to see at least one other LV member! I was Googling around for pen shows here and was coming up blank but hopefully something comes up in 2018 so I can browse around!

Great recommendations! I'll certainly be following through on each of these in the very near future :)

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
