Hello From San Diego, Ca

Ive always had a fascination with fountain pens every since I was a kid but had no idea how to get one. Then a few years back I bought a Parker gift-set but had no idea what I was doing so I never used it and I think I foolishly threw it away! (I'll never forgive myself.) For the past 6 or 7 moths Ive been following r/fountainpens on reddit and I finally bought my first pens a couple week ago, the Pilot Metropolitan and Lamy Safari. Then I found Goulet Pens on youtube and I fell down the rabbit hole. Now I'm awaiting my Nemosine Singularity Aqua Demonstator 0.6mm stub, TWSBI ECO, White 1.1mm stub, along with the Night Sky ink sample package and the Pilot Iroshizuku Mini Box Set Summer Edition. Yeah I fell down the rabbit hole fast.

There aren't that many stores here that sell fountain pens so I was wondering besides Goulet, Amazon, and Ebay what other sites does everyone use, that way I have a wider selection for my unintentional pen collection that i clearly am going to have?

Welcome home. Pull up a stump and set a spell. Check out Pendemonium, MainStreetPens, Nibs dot com, Chatterley Luxuries, Fountain Pen Hospital, Fahrney's, Dromgoole's, Peyton Street Pens, Vaness Pen Shop and that should get you started.

Welcome to our little corner of the universe from a fellow pen user in San Diego. Warwicks in La Jolla has a few pens and inks.

Welcome from a transplanted San Diegan (in the LA area at present). Lots of good info here. The Fountain Pen Shop in Monrovia is a great brick and mortar shop with good people. Enjoy the ride, and don't forget to focus on good paper/journals. You'll thank me later!

A bit late, but: Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
