That sounds like an expensive demonstration.

 It was....and I didn't buy the inks either and went for a Colorverse set....

@AGxM That pen is gorgeous! I was expecting a higher price point at first glance. Nice choice!

I love the Visconti EF nibs and the store owner knows I cannot resist something pretty.....

I've had my eye on those inks myself but held off so far because of the price. What was it that made you decide against them?

To be honest I am not really an ink person...I think if you journal or sketch, then you would get the benefit, but I use my pens for work and just like the grab and go pre-mixed colours. The same is with nibs, I'm a F or EF kind of gal. If I had the time and wanted to write pretty then I might appreciate the OBB, B and specialist nibs, but for work it's my scrawl and so a F or EF is my go to. My pens at pen meets are kind of boring nib wise lol

As my collection is small, I have all of these inked up right now. Needless to say, my notes here at the office are very colorful. I am writing with my 1990's Namiki Vanishing Point (m); Lamy Al-Star (m); Lamy 2000 (f); Pilot Custom 74 (m); Waterman Carene (m) and my TWSBI 580 ALR (1.1 Stub). The TWSBI is new from Goulet (my husband's not on here, right?!?) and I am experimenting with the stub nib. But it is butter-smooth, so I think I will come to enjoy writing with it.

Visconti HS Dark Ages with a 14K nib swap by Coles of London. Writes much better than with the Palladium nib.

I don't care for the Wing Sung nib and for the Pluminix body. Hence the fusion.

How come Diamine Steel Blue turns out more accurate in pictures than in scans. Mmh.

More or less my entire daily carry arsenal. Sometimes The K400 is substitute-able for an L2K ballpoint, L2K roller or Waterman Carene roller, but generally I like the Pelikan best.

The rest of the pens live in a leather case in my bag all the time.

Forgive the indelicate printing, but that's about as good as it gets by my hand!

*Update- the K400 is not that big. Must be camera angle.

*Update Update- If you're wondering why I don't just carry a multi pen, I can't find a single multi pen I love as much as the K400 and Century Classic independently. And I only use a pencil 3-4 times a year. The Centuries are compact enough that together they take up the same storage space as most standard sized pens.

I've been eyeing the Pelikan ballpoints for a while, especially the k200 and k400. What refill do you use in them?

I use schmidt easyflow9000's just about anywhere I can. I want to try the schmidt (p)812x's but haven't found a pen to use them with.

That's a beautiful collection of pens you have there : )

Hakase Tortoiseshell with buffalo horn. Arrived yesterday. :)

Just catching up on this thread since not checking it for...ever. Did anyone ever tell you what a beauty this is? Would love to see more pics and a handwriting sample if you're willing to humour us. I read a couple of pages forward and couldn't believe there was not overt salivating. Hope you're still enjoying it. Looks like a grail...

Well thank you! Right now it's a Pelikan broad refill, but I've got the Schmidt EasyFlow in another pen. I think the Schmidt might be a better quality refill. The K400 is a gorgeous pen and it gets noticed. But I'm disappointed I didn't look for a better deal on it as it feels very insubstantial. At the end of the day it's a back up ballpoint and it does it's job but I was hoping for a little more of an upmarket feel for the price.

The L2K ballpoint that I sub in for it some days is much more substantial feeling and came to me for far less. Still, I prefer the look of the K400. It's also a little thicker toward the writing end so it's easier for me to hold on to which is why I generally keep it with me.

The Kx00's have intrigued me. They stand out I think.

I've been looking for a good ballpoint to fit an Easyflow9000 into for a while. I don't mind lightweight as long as it's heavy enough to weigh the Easyflow down so it can write effortlessly with a solid line. Otherwise my hand fatigues more quickly from having to press the pen down.

I can just about reach that threshold of effortless writing with a Parker Jotter, but that pen is too small for me for longer writing sessions. It's a great jotter, but it's for jotting.

I use the Tikky rOtring-Easylfow often. It's inexpensive, comfortable, but a tad too light to lay down that effortless solid line.

I did pick up a Parker Sonnet Ballpoint fairly recently. The lacquer is very lovely, it has a good balance, and it has a heft to write an EF9000 effortlessly and smoothly and I love it. Beautiful writing experience regardless of being a ballpoint. But I do wish it was a tad thicker while retaining the weight it has. I can definitely see why you'd want something on this more substantial side.

I wanted that Lamy 2K ballpoint so much, but it doesn't take an Easyflow9000, which has outperformed any other ballpoint I've tried by a wide margin, though I haven't tried to Lamy ballpoint, but I haven't heard enough about it to make me invest in that ballpoint.

I wish I could recommend something, but not much comes to mind, especially based on your style.

I did see this Karas Kustoms EDK-VII, though, and they said they were working on a Ballpoint/rollerball version of their Metal Decograph.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
