M800 Oh Yeah!

I recently received this M800 Burnt Orange (Fine), brand new. It's my third Pelikan, joining an M605 blue striated and a 400NN green striated. Wow! It writes silky smooth, feels great in the hand, and now I think I'm totally hooked on the 800 size and feel the need for a couple more. Just a superb pen! Oh Yeah!

That's by far one of my favorite M800s released in recent memory. Congratulations! Sounds like you're putting together a very nice flock.

My favorite, probably because the colors are most often associated with my birthday. The orange has enough "creaminess" to it so it's not too bright, but still bright enoug to be eye catching.

Most maligned pen in history...

Looks like a Parker.

Looks like a Hemingway.

Looks like an Aurora.

I'm still sorry I missed this one!

As well as a red stripe M800.

And a brown tortoise M800.

Oh well, maybe I'll win the lottery some day.

I finally got over my concern about lack of ink window and picked one up on the secondary market with a broad nib.

Enjoy! I never gave a thought to the lack of an ink window. I always have a backup pen anyway.

My flock has grown quite a bit. First photo shows my 800's, and I even have duplicates of many of them.

Second photo gives you an idea which color/finish is my favorite. These are 101n's, a modern 400, and a vintage 400 pen/pencil set in vintage Pelikan case.

That's a great looking flock. Where did that M800 (fourth in from the right) come from? It has a neat looking barrel color.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
