First, welcome to our little corner of the universe from a pen user in San Diego. I just tried a search and got the same error message when I typed in the search term and clicked on the magnifier icon. However, if you click on the gear icon for "advanced search" that will work. Clearly this is a problem that needs to be called to the site admins.

There have been several posts from people recently (past week or so) with the same issue. I believe that the Powers that Be (Admin and Moderators) are looking into it. In the meantime, another way to search is to click on the button that says "Google Search" and choose one of the other options in the dropdown box (odds are good that the "Forums" button will get you the links to any relevant threads.

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

Thank you all for your response but I am still having trouble getting on. Believe it or not I’ve been a member for over a year and I changed my password and user name because I thought I was the issue and not the site. Very frustrating because of the holidays and my desire to buy some pens for relatives but without your advice I won’t do that. I do not see the gear section nor do I see advanced search. When I click on Google searchAnd forums I get a a lot of great information but nothing relating to the questions that I had asked.. Please advise as to how I can get onto the site. Could for some stupid insane reason the site have received a virus or has it been hacked in someway? My email is as follows Barbara.pincus@icloud.com. Could somebody get in touch with me via email and let me know how to clearly get to the questions and answers that I am used to seeing when I type into the search section on your site so many months ago. I would appreciate it.

In lew of being able to get onto the site might I ask a question of people who can write to me via email.? I’m interested in purchasing italix parsons essential pens. Stephen Brown likes them a great deal and mass drop has a special sale. It only has a time period of six more days and because I’m going out of the country, the US, for two months I need to do this in an expedited way in order to get them right after Christmas. I also would like to get a variety of nibs but I don’t find a source. This company offers a variety of nibs and I’m wondering if anyone knows the best ones to purchase?, I. E. I do not want a italic that might cut into the paper should I not write with it correctly. I have bought stub nibs before but I don’t know if they are substituting the word stub for italic. They offer obliques, cursive italic, but no indication if their stub is rounded – which is what I want. Or italics rounded and does not cut into the paperAny help would be greatly appreciated.

Or start a new topic about your question.

Since you posted, another member started thread about this massdrop. Folks there can help.

Or visit the mrpen website (the pen maker)
here's the page for the parson's essential and information about their nib options

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
