So, I'm Thinking About Going Full-Pelikan...

Probably the wrong time to move into Pelikans (a bit like Bitcoin :D) because in recent years the prices have become silly expensive.

I agree, prices have increased, especially on eBay

As the title says, I'm thinking about going full-Pelikan with my collection.

What would you suggest for my collection? 1 of each model, each colour of each model, all the LEs?

I have an M1005, M1000, and M800.

What a coincidence, I came to the same conclusion yesterday!

For my hand, the M80x is the best size, so I decided for me to concentrate on the Special Editions of the M800. At the moment they bring out 1-2 each year. So that's within my budget and leaves room for a couple of other pens or for the case that I come across a discontinued model.

Thanks for all the thoughts guys!!

I realise my original question was a little vague. My preference is for M10xx sized pens, but there aren't too many to collect for the size. I do love the look of a lot of the M8xx though!!

I also have a 400NN

Thanks to reading Bo Bo's posts on proper grip, and others on movement with the arm and shoulder, not just the fingers, I am now using my 400s through 800, without discomfort. In the last month, I've used my Vintage 400s, which are superb, even more than my 600s posted, and my 800 unposted, each of which is marvelous. And, all have been utterly comfortable. I appreciate all of your patience, with the proper physical handling of the fountain pen.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
