Lamy Oblique Nibs

Why on earth has Lamy discontinued the oblique nibs for their cheaper pens? I bought a Lamy aion with a very nice M Nib, however I much prefer the oblique nibs.

Could I find them anywhere?

Well, you are right Martin. But Aion nibs appear to be very good quality and I was hoping to see more variety.

Nevertheless I enjoy my 3 Lamy 2000 (2 of them got from you) and the free Lamy service (unlike other, more prestigious makes). I guess we can't have it all!

As far as I know, only the 2000 has an oblique nib option. And speaking of the new Aion nibs, I hope they bring out italic nibs in the range, or at least a 1.1 mm. (And, yes,I know I can use the current italic nibs in the Aion, but having one that is aesthetically correct would be better).

You can buy Lamy Z55 2 tone 14k gold nibs in OM and OB to upgrade your Lamy pens take the Z50 steel nib.

That is an idea - but I hope Lamy create more variety with the Aion nib. I like tge pen a lot and the medium nib which comes with it is fantastic but i would use it much more with an OM nib. I might get an OM 14k nib for it (but it will cost more than the pen!)

All Lamy pens that have gold nibs also have medium- and broad-oblique options (eg Imporium, dialog 3, scala piano black, cp1 PT etc). As mentioned above, you also have the option of an after-market 14k gold nib in an oblique point size.

Same. The Lamy 2000 OM I got from TWD is single handedly the best nib I have ever seen. Even under 40x magnification, the grind still looks perfect, absolutely perfect. It has set a standard my measly 3x more expensive Pelikans can only hope to achieve some day.

I am thoroughly saddened to hear Lamy steel nibs no longer come in oblique flavour. These nibs are amazing.

P.S.: Thank you for stocking up on Travelers' stuff! Are you going to get the 2018 underlay?

  • 3 weeks later...

I have a Persona, it had a 18K nail OB....with absolutely no line variation. Pendelton Brown made it a very nice CI....with lots of line variation.

When making an OB a CI, the nib will be a tad smaller....so a B-M or a M-B....but I've not split hairs with it.

I have a steel OB that arrived on the back of a white Safari, eons ago. Very little line variation, maybe if you squint, but still one of the smoothest nibs I own.

Now the nibs on the 2000, those are like good old-fashioned, pre-'65 German nibs. Even the straight B and BB are square-ish cut, nice line variation.

I'm looking to buy replacement nibs for my 2000s - what or who is TWD?

Do the Lamy OB's and OM's have any stub like qualities?

Depends. IF the ink is fairly dry - yes. If it is very wet...then no. I love my steel Lamy OB - Goulet is supposed to get more....

Look towards the beginning of this thread. TWDPens (The Writing Desk) is an online retailer in Britain.

TWD says "Lamy 2000 fountain pen (spare nibs are not available for this model"

I have seen replacement Lamy 2000 nibs on eBay but for the price you can get a brand new Lamy 2000 with that nib from missing-pens.de.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
