I dont know much about Vacumatics but I think people may want to know which series Vac you are referring to, the year on the barrel would do if you are not sure of the series.

Does it look like this one for example

Your pen is a Golden Vacumatic, which was made in the Jr and Deb sizes, never the 3 band standard size. The blind cap that is on it is from a Duofold. Mito is correct. I will add that the blind cap will be black with a tassie and black jewel.

And the blind cap/tassie is essentially unique. Hard to find part.

Many thanks for the replies, although now I am not filled with much hope. Best to keep looking, maybe something will turn up.

I don't know that its all that unique. The Jr and 3 band standard were the same diameter, the Jr just a little shorter, and with a 2 band cap. The blind cap and tassie/jewels were the same, so you could get the blind cap from any black Jr or Standard lock down Vac.

I think Tod / F.Boy frightened the OP by saying the blind cap/tassie was essentially unique and was, thus, a hard to find part.

I believe there to be a slight difference in the blind caps mentioned. I may be one of a few that thinks so.

But can't you grant him permission to 'get away' with just a black 1st G. Junior blind cap on compassionate grounds? For the time being, at least. :)

It is ok. I have far more desk pens with caps than I need...

Hint implied?

Yes. I lack blind caps for both sizes, especially the larger one thus my extra desk pens...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
