Hi, I'm from Quebec and just found my new love for fountain pen a month ago. I had some dip pen for writting and drawing, but i bought my first one for every day use. Red Lamy Safari. One week later i was buying a vista. Now i'm waiting on my Safari Petrol to arrive in the mail. Don't know yet which one is next, but i'm looking into the Noodler's Ahab.

Welcome, a great start to your collection.

Are there any stores in your area that sell pens?

Used to be a few when I visited Montreal, not sure if they still do.

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

Welcome aboard, from Charleston, South Carolina. If you are a newbie, you might look at the Reference Pages on a website called Richard's Pens: it has a wealth of info about the basics of fountain pens, their use and care, and it will help you avoid making some mistakes. A couple of other websites with useful information for newbies include PenChalet, Jetpens and the Goulet Pen Company. Goulet has made quite a few videos available on their website and on YouTube, which are helpful with some procedures related to FP use. Bear in mind that how your writing appears on the page is a complex interplay of pen, paper, nib, ink, and handwriting, so be patient as you experiment with these variables. Enjoy, and good luck.

Welcome !

The Vista is just a transparent Safari.   Please keep in mind that they accept several different nibs, that change in seconds.  Try some.

Sounds good, I do have a fine nib now and en EF on the way. Will see the difference once it's in. I did notice that the vista was the same as the safari, but i like the fact that it's clear.

Hello PenInkPaperDraw and welcome!

It´s a long time I´ve seen that flag anywhere... :)

I went to Québec when I was 16 and lived there for a year, in a small town named St.-Alexis-des-Monts, halfway between Montréal and Ville de Québec and a bit to the north. It was a wonderful year and I am happy to be reminded of this experience.

Happy to hear that. I've looked up by curiosity and that about 3 hours from where I am.

That should be accurate. I remember it to be a two hours drive from Saint-Alexis to Montréal when we visited the mother of my "mère d'acceuil". And I have been to Ottawa once in that year (which was in 1990/1991). So I must have been around where you live. :)

We Canadians have access to some rather cheap fp friendly paper. I used Merangue black ink cartridges on Superstore ( Maxi and Cie ) everyday essentials filler looseleaf paper. No bleedthough and no feathering. I haven't tried other inks yet. They went for 25 cents a package during the back to school sales. Fp friendly notebooks for 10 cents each.
