Montblanc Toffee Brown Ink Review

One of my favorites as well.

mine too, even my friends and family 'borrow' a fill from time to time

Writes well, has a nice after glow.

:) couldn't agree more

Beautiful color and shading! Shame it has no water resistance (since many other brown inks do).

:(

If I'm going to spill stuff on my desk....water resistance is necessary....but with decades of hard strenuous training, seldom spill stuff on my desk any more....knock on my wooden head.

There are plastic folders if one don't have a water proof briefcase.

We don't do checks here in the EU, we use bank transfers which are as cheap as checks here, so I don't need Noodlers Warden inks..........

Someway the hues of MBTB deftly hide the other limitations (if at all) so nicely

Jup! Wonderful and delightful brown, one of my favourites! Thank you for your review. ... MB Sepia! This sounds pretty cool!

Thank you so much :)

Before I tried Montblanc Toffee Brown I would've rolled my eyes at the thought that any brown could become a staple in my ink collection. But it most certainly has.

:) Same here !

I am not a huge brown ink fan, but this is one of the two brown inks that I own. I love the richness and depth of color. Great review! Thank you for sharing it.

Thank you :)

Jup! This was my first brown ink but not my last...

Ha ha... WTG :D

Beautiful photographs and a nice review. I just don't like the ink shade though.

This is too red a brown for me.

DITTO! Thank goodness I bought only the box of cartridges and not a bottle.

Thank you :). My preference is towards reddish browns though, that's why I like the MBTB more than smoky quartz.

Very nice brown and no trouble unlike Wtaerman havana brown which with age has a tendancy to cause inkflow problems. Good inkflow in any pen.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

I bought the ink and returned it. I didn't feel I comfortable using it in a professional setting. I did do one fill with a 149 F nib with a 20% dilution just to see what the color would look like. I turned it into a Brownish, Golden color. Now I wish I would have kept the ink just for journaling.

Regards,

David

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
