Tomoe River Notebook - Europe?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I love Nanami Seven Seas notebooks but the international shipping to Europe is so expensive that almost hurts. Hm, do you know if there is some alternative here in Europe? someone making within the UE similar notebooks with Tomoe River cream paper?. Thank you.

You have several choices in the UK, for different kind of notebooks, and pads using Tomoe River paper.Unfortunatelly nobody proposed Namani Seven Seas :(

Except Pegasus, I knew the others. Yes, any of them are real alternatives to Nanami Seven seas notebooks (thick notebooks with cream Tomoe River 52 grms paper). I fear I will have to find a way to make my own notebooks. For me, the 'perfect' notebook would be a Moleskine soft cover (slightly narrower than a A5 as you all know) with Tomoe River cream 52 grms paper. But this doesn't exist.

Or you have GatzBcn to make you a journal at your taste.

She makes beautiful journals, and lives in Spain.

Here is a thread where she shows some of her journals:

I love Taroko Shop Tomoe notebooks, available from:

https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/TarokoShop?ref=l2-shopheader-name

Steven Chang, the shop owner, is great to do business with. He sells a variety of notebook sizes, using both 52gsm and 68gsm paper, with various rulings etc. Shipping from Taiwan to Europe is reasonable & usually very fast.

No affiliation, just a very satisfied repeat customer.

Thank you. Hm, yes, maybe I will contact GatzBcn to see if she is able to manage a Moleskine-like notebook with Tomoe River blank cream paper. I love Taroko notebooks, I have one (Breeze) and its excellent but I miss a notebook with blank cream paper. He hardly makes blank paper notebooks on cream Tomoe River.

Do you think the shipping for a notebook inside the UE is 22 euros -which is the shipping from Nanami to Europe-?. Meerleuks in Holland ships for 7 euros. Anyway, the final price is the same than ordering directly from Nanami.

Oh right. I prefer white Tomoe as it’s more like ivory/off-white and I find the cream too ‘yellow’. So I’m happy with his white blank A5 notebook. Good luck with your search :-)

Thanks for the link, he has some nice stuff for sale and not overpriced.

Does anyone else struggle with the thinner TR paper, perhaps its just me being a heavy handed oaf or not but I seem to almost be coming through the other side of the paper when I write, perhaps my leather topped desk doesnt help in this regard.

I love the writing experience but I cannot use it for the same reason - too light. Its a great sheet, no question, but if they could perfect that in about a 75gsm it would be utopia. I'm with you Beechwood. Nice sheet, but........

EDIT: Though if I send it as a standard letter I could probably squish the shipping down to 130 SEK (≈ €13).

Beautiful work Naihvo - I am in awe of anyone that can make such beautiful notebooks and I love the slip case. Unfortunately notebooks with a matching slip case are very hard to find. Congratulations on your work.

There is an alternative Tomoe River paper weight of 68gsm, but it's not as easily available as the 52gsm version.

Haven't been able to find that sheet. have you tried it? Is the writing experience the same?

I have a notebook with a Moleskine type cover, made using thicker, unlined TR 68gsm paper. Someone on FPN made them about 3 years ago, but maybe he's no longer here.

It's certainly thicker paper, and I prefer my notebooks to have lined paper, but I occasionally use this one when I'm writing ink reviews, just as a comparison. It suffers less from show through and bleed through.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
