Pelikan M400 Brown. Scratches From Capping

I have recently (two months ago) purchased a pelikan m400 brown tortoiseshell. I really love this pen and it is one of my favourites. So, i try to keep it in great condition. I treat it like a baby. But it has created some light scratches from capping and this drives me crazy. I know that some of you would not mind but i do not like it. I never twist it too much.

Is there any safe way in order to get rid of them? Is this a common issue with pelikans?

Here is a picture, In real life it is not so pronounced though, but under proper lighting it is disturbing.

I think it is common for all pelikans. All my 3 M800s and 2 M400s has these scratches from capping. On Renaissance brown it is less, but may be because i cannot see it well due to the marbling. It does not bother me though.

Only way to get rid of it is polish using some or the other kind of abrasive. But youll need to keep doing it. So I wouldnt...

You could try a dot of plastic polish to polish that part of the barrel. :)

Or maybe a Sunshine cloth would polish it.

thank you. are you sure that a dot of plastic polish wont harm this material. I will do it completely with my own responsibility. No doupt about that. I am just asking how sure you are that it is not going to harm it. Is this tortoiseshell body just resin?

thanks!

Well all I can say is that I use it on my Montblancs. The barrel on your Pelikan is trimmed with a plastic/resin binde.

It all depends on whether you want the mark on there or you don't. Polishing it off with some form of very mildly abrasive plastic polish or a Sunshine cloth might achieve the latter. I wouldn't ever use anything more abrasive than plastic polish.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
