Uk Here To Stay

Hi guys, I'm Andy. I hail from Tyneside in England, UK

I'm left handed but write from underneath, so can just about manage with FPs!

I'm a pharmacist and part of my job is record keeping. I got into fountain pens (Still love a rollerball, though) in order to make my life a little fresher.

I love the modern designs and as a result, I'm using mainly Lamy, TWSBI and OHTO loaded with Iroshizoku, Edelstein and Sailor.

Open to new ideas and suggestions, as well as tips and tricks to make my fine nibs feel like theyre floating on a cloud.

Aalreet?

I owned a Jinhao but the nib was horrific. Totally put me off them. I tried to even it out and used brass leaf to smooth the slit but wouldn't improve.

It was cheap, so can't complain... But nothing on my 2000 or Aion

Hello Andy and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

Welcome home. Pull up a stump and set a spell. The best advice I know of when dealing with fine nibs is to keep a light hand, absolutely no pressure. It's the difference between shaving with one of those twenty blade things and a safety razor.

Hi Darth Roo, I am Bryan known as Oneill on FPN originally from Boldon Colliery where I worked Down the Pit for 12 years before emigrating to Adelaide Australia I have had a lot to do with a cheap Chinese pen or rather two cheap because they are both made by the same company Jinhao, the other is called Baoer they are the most affordable pens that you can get on ebay are made from Solid Brass tubing in most cases have very smooth NIBS and write very well.I have a very large collection and have the pleasure of having named many of them because I used to Edit their web pages,Should you start a collection of theirs be sure to enhance yours by buying a pen which the company chose two names for, it is The Abalone. and The Mother of pearl it is ever so little few dollars more but worth it , Trust Me, Oneill. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you need some help, regards Oneill I have just noticed you other post which was not impressed by the NIB, sory if mine was totally different you win some U lose some. It would appear Andy Did Not Stay

I also wondered why this old introduction thread had been resurrected. Andy came to stay on November 18th and was last active on November 25th. So, it looks like you're right. he didn't stay. :(

Welcome! You will find lots of great information here and many suggestions to expand your collection.

Cheers,

Ozzy

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
