So -- what pens/inks are you currently using? I should warn you though that we are all shameless enablers here and will happily help you spend your disposable income on pens, inks, paper, repair tools, ephemera, etc.

You may (or may not, depending on your budget) want to have a look at the pinned Index to the Ink Reviews Forum. I had no idea when I got started that there was more than blue, blue-black and black ink....

Welcome to FPN from a former WNY resident (Jamestown and Ithaca) now in snowless NE Florida where we are birdsitting your chipping sparrows and goldfinches for the winter.

 

Ruth is right (or is that write?). We at FPN are shameless enablers. Visit the ink reviews and explore and ask questions. Several vendors will sell you 2 and 3 mL samples of inks to find what what you like before buying whole bottles. We are in the golden age of inks.

 

FPN has a well-deserved reputation for friendliness as well as aiding and abetting paper, pen, and ink addictions. Welcome aboard.

Welcome! I remember Greece. I used to live near Highland Park for 8 years, but have long since left to pursue a job offer. I really enjoyed my time in Rochester. How I loved The Little Theatre, Eastman House, the Margaret Strong Museum and other local attractions.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off.
