Hi Brian, glad to see a lot of jewels from your collection. Very nice!

Here is my Saratoga with Flexible Music nib. Very wet and smooth nib.

G’day Ricardo. An Australian Music Nib. Wow! Rare indeed. Thanks for posting the photo.

Does the pen also have an Australian barrel and/or cap inscription?

Regards. Mark

Hi Mark, it's aways a pleasure to share our fountain pens photos and knowledge. This pen has an Australian nib and .... barrel from United States.

Thank you!

Ricardo

This is a great thread! I have been collecting flex nib snorkels for a while. Being hard to find makes the hunt even more fun and I enjoy writing with them. Here is some of my collection that I shot earlier this year:

Your pen is a Sheaffer Imperial AS9, not a Snorkel. Looks like Sage Green. Check this thread:

woah, thank you so much sir, i never thought the imperial lineup has round screw nib, and it makes sense from the very first paragraph you mentioned in the link "This is the first Sheaffer pen to use the Imperial name" thats why i misidentified the model because a lot of snorkel looks like this one.

here are 6 of the 7 nibs i have, left to right:

Black Valiant

Grey Statesman

Maroon Crest, Made in Canada with pencil and case

Green Crest, Made in Canada, First year, with pencil and case

Blue Sentinel Made in Canada

Black Clipper

Notes:

- Not pictured, Triumph Nibbed Desk pen in Brown(or Dark Orange for Technology Connections fans...)Maroon, Made in Canada (much darker maroon than the crest)

- Yes i know, all the tubes don't extend to the same length... these are the lengths they extended to when i got them and i don't like dislodging the snorkel tube to adjust them :P

I don't think I've ever seen one in a color other than black or brown. Could you post a photo?

I believe the correct colour name for mine is likely "brown". I always thought of it as a maroon, because it's a reddish brown.

But i just held it next to a cordovan "51" and it is definitely browner than the "51". Sorry to have gotten your hopes up!

These pens are interesting not for their color but for their chrome trim. Sheaffer made very few of these. I don't know why but they're called "reverse" trimmed Snorkels (what's the reverse of what?).

The Admiral is mint.

In a post on November 21, 2017, it was suggested that these "reverse trimmed" Snorkels might have been from a special production run similar to the Levenger Connaisseurs, or even prototypes.

I happened to take a close look at the two in this photo yesterday and noted that the imprint on the Statesman runs radially around the cap above the cap band, which is a characteristic of a late production date. The imprint on the Admiral is in the usual location on the barrel.

I wonder others with reverse trimmed examples could check out the location of their imprints. Seems to me that variations in the location of the imprint might put to rest the theory these pens were from a special production run or were prototypes.

I can't tell if you intended your question to be rhetorical or not.

If not, then I'll bite.

The term "reverse term" is applied to pens that have the "opposite" color of trim than normal. For example, brown and black pens usually have gold trim, so when they have silver trim, it is called "reverse."

Sorry for the lack of clarity.

I was asking Snorkel collectors who own a rare reverse trim example to say where the imprint on their pen is located.

It was suggested in the 2017 post that these reverse trim pens might have been produced by Sheaffer in a special limited run, or maybe produced as prototypes. Because my two have very different imprints, I would think they were probably produced in different years or at least different production runs.

So I was just looking for more information on these rare pens.

Thought I would share my latest acquisition, a 1952 Sentinel in black. I replaced the sac and seals, but nothing else was needed. As you can see (hopefully), it appears this pen was rarely used.

Hello everyone,

I felt it was time to revive this thread. It's been too long since I've seen all your beautiful collections. I would love to see other people's contributions with what they've acquired in the last year.

Here are some of my recent finds. I mostly hunt for NOS and/or rare color Snorkels these days. These three fit both criteria, so I bought them, and I got them for a good price.

Triumph gold-filled, made in Canada, fine nib, earlier model with engraving band at the base of the cap

large.PXL_20240114_003211662.jpg.39295e608fcbe568eee1e3edbb24e27a.jpglarge.PXL_20240114_003240562.jpg.e8c6a84bc5ce720314590be5ea07a938.jpg

Triumph gold-filled, made in USA, extra-fine nib, later model with engraving band at the top of the barrel

Valiant, peacock blue, made in USA, fine nib (it doesn't look like peacock blue on these photos because I couldn't get the white balance right, but in real life it looks very different from my pastel blue and periwinkle snorkels, it has more green in it than pastel blue)
