Hello From Inside The Polar Circle

Hey there.

I'm from the northernmost region in Norway, Finnmark and time after time I stumbled upon FPN through google, hearing about it from certain youtubers, and talking to other people.

I first got interested in fountain pens about two years ago when I got my first pen, a Lamy Safari, from that point I also started improving my handwriting.

I ended up getting more pens and inks obviously, and I also ended up checking out Chinese pens to see if I can get some nice pens for a low price.

I am interested in getting my hands on a vintage flex pen at some point so if someone can push me in the right direction like what to look for and where then that is appreciated.

Greetings and welcome to FPN from somewhere in the Orient - Islamabad, Pakistan. I would suggest buying a Waterman 52 or a Swan MT with flexible nibs from some reputable sellers in US or the UK.

Welcome home. Pull up a stump and set a spell. When it comes to flex pens there are maybe a half dozen sellers I'd trust but if they do YouTube flex videos scratch them off the list.

Welcome, I have fond memories of a bike treff and the museum at Alta, and seeing the midnight sun at Nordkapp (and not so fond of the migs). All seems so long ago now

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

Welcome !

My favorite budget-price Chinese fountain pen is the Jinhao x450. Keep alert to Ebay and this site to catch one at one Euro, with free shipping.

I think my wording was a bit bad, you could say I have way too many chinese pens, the X450 and X750 were the first two I got. Oh well, atleast I have some I can give away if someone I know is interested

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
