What Color Would You Like To See On The Safari?

Interestingly Lamy hasn't announced any new color for the Safari in 2018 so far. Nor the AL-Star.

I hope it's something I will really like! For some reason there are only a small handful of colors/combinations they've released that I really like and want to use, and I now have 3 out of 4 of them (Coffee Al-Star, Rose Gold LX, Petrol Safari, "Purple" Al-Star).

Doesn't Lamy announce their colors in later November or December?

Do they? I can't remember. I thought it was more like October. But I might be wrong.

Well, hopefully, they announce it soon. I'm getting a bit jumpy about this new one.

I know... I've been having bouts of insomnia over it... the only thing that puts me to sleep is looking at my Safari collection and doing mathematical probability exercises on what the next color will be.

I'm still hoping for a nice fir green AL-star. Even if there have been a lot greens lately.

I'm praying for a shiny Safari. Not to be rude, but I really dislike matte Safaris.

And it's funny -- I prefer the matte colors over the shiny ones. I have tried to make myself like the shiny colors well enough to get a second Safari and have not yet talked myself into it (when I decided I really did want one, I thought about getting one of the pink ones (not coral -- the actual pink from a couple of years before). Only when I saw them for real I was very unenamored of the color. But the Dark Lilac? Oh absolutely.... Of course the black nib and black clip helped.... B)

But that's the great thing about this little hobby. Flippy, you can have all the shiny barrel Safaris your little heart desires (assuming that you aren't blowing the college funds or anything of course), so I don't have to buy ANY of them!

I like this grey!

We need a brown, of course. Let's all go out for coffee together. We'll all order a different latte and choose. I gotta say I prefer matte colors...

Maybe some pastel color this time....

I was thinking gray with blue clip which is supposed to be Pantone color of the year 2018

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
