I couldn't find any posts on this event, but the Society of Scribes Annual Holiday Fair is tomorrow.

 

Sunday, November 12, 2017 from 11am to 4pm

 

The Brotherhood Synagogue

28 Gramercy Park South (20th Street between 3rd Avenue & Irving Place)

Free Admission! Open to the public! Guests are welcome!

Join us for the event of the year, celebrating calligraphy and our love of hand-lettering and hand-made treasures! This year’s Fair will feature both new and traditional attractions: * Paper & Ink Arts on-site calligraphy boutique * Scriptorium with Karen Gorst * Marbled artwork by Katherine Radcliffe * Watercolor cards by Annette Fleischman * Karolina Lach Ceramics * Carrie Lo Art & Design * Calligraphy demonstrations * Vintage 1890s Warren’s Pens * The SoS Café (featuring complimentary premiere espresso/coffee from Cupa Cabana from 11:30 to 3) * plus lots more to see and do!       I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
