Eboya - 2 Questions

Could anybody show me a pictorial comparison of an Eboya M-size/L-sized pen with a 1911 KoP (Kingprofit) or an Montblanc 149?

The nib-size M is that more a Japanese M or more a western M?

Thank you

I'll try to get you some pictures when the sun also rises. Eboya uses Bock 14K nibs but also tunes them in-house to what the buyer wants. Also in my experience Japanese size vs European sizes when it comes to nibs is more myth than reality.

Thank you Jar. I completely forgot that they exist, it was good that you mentioned them in the Pilot Urushi thread.

It depends, my Pelikan Ms are more like Japanese Bs - but I don't have any European B which would be necessary for a sound comparison.

As long as the Eboya M are not as broad as my Pelikan M, life is OK.

Should you order a pen you can request that it get tuned the way you like.

But there really isn't some standard nib width; I have European and UK and US pens that have nibs finer than anything I've even come across in Japan and have posted writing samples to demonstrate just how variable it really is.

Snapped a quick picture (here at my work). Surely someone will do justice to the pens. Anyway, Nakaya on left and MB149 in center. Eboya is the medium Natsume.

From left: Large Yatate, Sailor KOP, Medium Houju, KOP ProGear, Small Natsume

I have another medium Natsume ordered but it will likely be three or four months before it is made.

Add Another picture: The Small Natsume next to so other familiar pens.

Jar, is your large Yatate an eyedropper or a converter fill? Curious what feed they use?

All my Eboyas are cartridge/converters. I have no use for eyedroppers at all and honestly prefer cartridges to any other filling system including converters.

Eboya has another filling system, do you know what type it is?

It makes a pen 30000 Yen more expensive - compared to the same pen as a cartridge/converter pen.

It's an eye dropper with shut off valve.

And I got good news. They have the pen I just ordered in stock and so as soon as the nib gets installed, tuned and adjusted it should head my way.

Enjoy your new pen. Which one did you order?

Most probably, I will order a Hakobune (L-size). I don't need a clip anyway.

  • 4 weeks later...

I have a large Houju in 日暮 (orange) with a massive B nib and button filling system. Not sure if they still offer the button filler option since the change in craftsmen, but it's one of my favorites.

Neat, but without pictures ...

And I think they only do two filling systems now, C/C and eyedropper with a shut off valve.

Last time I checked (couple of weeks ago), eyedropper with shut-off valve is not being made. Don't know whether temporary or permanent.

The Eboya Natsume's look absolutely beautiful.

I plan on ordering a Medium Sized Natsume in Kumpuu Green, but I have a question:

How many turns does it take to screw on/off the cap?

I ask due to my experience with Indian made Ebonite pens that can have upwards from 4-6 revolutions : (

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
