Dry Starting.

My Pelikan M1000 was cleaned and stored for a few months. Then I filled it with ink and kept it nib up and capped for periods of time ( say, a few hours ) between use. I found that after being nib up for a while, the pen dry starts. After a few forward shakes, it then starts and continues to write and always starts right away when stored horizontally.

 

Why would that happen? The fact that the pen writes without problem when stored horizontally makes me think that it can't be a clog in the channels. I don't recall this happening before I stored it for a few months.

Store it upright for a few hours. Carefully uncap the pen keeping the nib up. With the nib upright, Do you see light through the nib slit? If yes the pen wont write.

 

Point the nib down, after a few seconds do you see ink travel down the nib slit? If yes, you will find the nib writes again.

 

Check this and revert.

Some pens like to be stored down....or horizontal for short term.

See if taking three calming breaths after taking the cap off and rotating the pen so it's pointing down gives it enough time to fill.

 

That is a big feed....not that should matter.

What ink are you using?????
