Great looking pen and great review. Already on my fountain-pen-to-buy list

sad thing is though, takes decades for pens to trickle into little old Nz and in Remuera where I am living, there's literally on one miniature stationary shop that either doesn't have the pen or sells it with ridiculous margins compared to amazon.

Thank you for the comments! The only way I would have ever gotten this pen was by seeing it in person on a business trip through Frankfurt. I actually bought it for myself for my birthday. I do understand about the dirth of brick and mortar stores that sell pens, inks and stationary. The nearest one to me is hundreds of miles away.

Hi Deborah,

Thank you for taking the time and effort to write this great review.

My original plan was to get the olive-silver one, but I think I'll opt for the black instead... it has that classic elegance vibe going for it.

Again, great review... thank you. Be well. :)

...I am not a big fan of Lamy inks...

Hello, again, Deborah,

Their black and turquoise are excellent inks... the rest you can keep. :)

I'm surprised this pen hasn't made it to the US yet. Someone had one at the SF show back in August and I was impressed. It's feels like quite a nice pen for the price point. I think it will do well alongside the Studio, as it really doesn't feel like a similar pen. I have several Studios and will likely pick up an Aion. I forgot if the nibs are interchangeable, hopefully, as I prefer the gold nibs on Studios.

Thank you. I agree, the black is much nicer.

I might agree about the turquoise ink. I don't use black ink hardly ever.

When I picked mine up in Germany, the Lamy salesman said that they weren't selling in the US yet. They wanted to try them in Europe first.

The Aion is different that the Studio. It has an altogether different feel. I like them both, but for different reasons. Also, although I think the nibs will fit on either pen, I am not sure if they behave the same. The sides of the Aion nib are more contoured and it appears to be slightly arched. I am sure that someone will try them out and let us know if changing the nibs works as well as the original. But truthfully, I am very happy with the nib that came on the pen.

I am not affiliated in any way with Colorado Pen. I just like to spread the love.

Thanks, Dr.P.,... I'll be keeping an eye out for it... I wonder if that's when the green Studio will be released, too?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
