Dubious Montblanc Pen - Pro's/con's List

Hi Forum,

 

My apologies that my first post is a "help identifying" post - but I hope to show that I at least put some initiative in researching this pen before approaching you guys.

 

• Pro: The pen has a serial number on the back of the top. The serial number begins with "HR"
  • Con: After a thorough Google search, I cannot find any other pens that begin with "HR" - in fact, most of my search results are composed of Montblanc's Human Resources
• Pro: Has Montblanc emblem on the top of the pen.
  
• Pro: Inside the clip it reads: "GERMANY" <signature>* Metal"
  • Con: Doesn't say PIX.
    • Pro: Newer pens do say metal. • Con: Has no "Montblanc ring" or "pen ring"
  
• Pro: It has a Montblanc case.
  • Con: It is a bi-fold case and I cannot find another Montblanc bi-fold case anywhere.
• Pro: Inside it has a "Montblanc Ball Pen Refill" cartridge.
  
• Con: It is a twist pen.
  • Pro: Montblanc did make twist pens, they are just (from what I understand) more seldom.

*A footnote about the signature: This signature is replicated on the pen's case (see below), on the pen itself and on the back of the pen's clip. I cannot, for the life of me, make this signature out (Lehrer? Lehner? Lehre?) - Through my research, I discovered Montblanc's Signature for Good campaign - although I cannot find a website that has each year's respective campaign/signature, my search through Google and eBay yielded nothing A) similar to this pen or a name similar to the signature.

 

 

I would genuinely appreciate your thoughts on this pen. Thank you in advance.

It's the "Marlene Dietrich" ballpoint pen from 2007.

Pen and box look real to me.

  • Pro: Montblanc did make twist pens, they are just (from what I understand) more seldom. Montblanc make loads of ballpoint pens and they are always twist action.

Yes it's a Marlene Dietrich ballpoint. Nothing dubious.

Just a footnote: Montblanc currently makes mostly twist-action ballpoints, but in the past they had many different models which used push-button, lever action (including the safety feature lever-through-the-clip), or push-cap action.

Interesting thanks. Good facts to know. A few years ago I bought a Pelikan fountain pen and ballpoint set only to find that the ballpoint refills are no longer made....lesson learned

As far as I know, Pelikan has used the Parker "g2" refill (as made famous by the Jotter, etc) for many years. Before that, they used a slimmer style refill (which I think is why they call the current refill "Giant").

 

There's a thread here on FPN about this older refill (I'm hoping they didn't use others; I don't have any vintage Pelikan ballpoints myself). The pictures that link from the thread show the Schneider 75 Express refill, and the Schmidt 700 is also mentioned.

I think these refills are actually all very close to the slim ballpoint refills that appeared in everyday pens for many years, such as the Bic Clic Stik. Some makers' pens need the refill lengthened with an adapter, some need them cut down, but they're pretty easy to work with.

That was a Pelikan Stainless Steel set that I loved and wanted to use as edc. The ballpoint refill is the thin one that you describe. The only refills I could find to fit were 30 year old ones that I did not trust. The pens are packed away where I can’t get at them easily, or I would send you a photo. I’ve tried all sorts of refills most were too short, some too fat. I tried taking the back cap off of the original to put on a Sheaffer refill, but it got mangled in the process....more to come...lol
