Mabuhay! From The Philippines

Greetings FPN!

I was born and raised in California, but now I am currently residing in one of the cities that comprises Metro Manila, the capital of the Philippines.

I've always had an interest in fine writing materials, and have been a long time lurker to these forums. I recently decided to create an account in hopes to interact more with fellow members, and to learn more about this timeless (and expensive) hobby that continues to draw my interest.

I only own a handful of fountain pens and a few bottles of ink, but I hope to expand my collection and knowledge to a level where I can also actively contribute to these forums.

"Salamat sa lahat!" (Thanks to all!)

Welcome home. Pull up a stump and set a spell. If you think fountain pens are an expensive hobby take up golf.

Agreed. I used to golf while I was still in California, but I haven't been able to play since moving out here since I don't have a full set of clubs, and driving out to a course is such a hassle with the traffic. Other expensive hobbies/collectibles that I've been in & out of: photography, watches, shoes, and FOOD.

Welcome !

I gave Eddie a red Esterbrook fountain pen, as his retirement present. In March, Eddie returned to the Philippines.

If you see him, remind him that he promised to write to me. :lticaptd:

Sooooo, which fountain pens do you have ?

Auf freiem Grund mit freiem Volke stehn.
Zum Augenblicke dürft ich sagen:
Verweile doch, du bist so schön !

Sure! But who's Eddie? ( :D )

My current stock of FPs:

A handful of Platinum Preppys either in 0.2 or 0.3 (these are scattered everywhere in the household);

Lamy Safari in a Fine with a spare Extra Fine nib.

TWSBI Mini AL Extra Fine

Montblanc LeGrand 146 Broad (my first fountain pen actually, which I inherited from my father after he passed away years ago; my 1st post in the forums was actually asking about the nib size on this pen and a few members believe it's a broad nib).

Current stock of Ink:

Montblanc Black (also commented from my 1st post that this bottle is probably from the late 1980s)

Montblanc Royal Blue

Pelikan 4001 Blue-Black

J. Herbin Perle Noire

Noodler's Black

Noodler's Apache Sunset

Lamy cartridges in Blue and Petrol.

Current ever-changing wish list:

Pilot Vanishing Point

Lamy 2000

Ink in earth tones and maybe a red

More FP-friendly notebooks

(Open for suggestions on both Ink and paper!)

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
