Diagnosed the issue as damage due to shipping... as it was a gold nib loosely banging around in a container being thrown around by the mail handling system.

 

I finally got around to sending the nib back to FC in September - INSIDE - the pen I use it in and asked if they would ship it back inside the pen to prevent damage.

 

Well, it appears they sent me a brand new version of the pen I sent it back in - Model 66 in Ice. My pen was eyedroppered and had some ink I couldn't fully get out. And it had some marks showing due to use and packing around with me in my bag/pocket.etc... for the last year.

 

The pen they sent me was flawless - either it was a brand new pen or they cleaned the ever loving heck out of it :)

 

They obviously fixed the nib and performs flawlessly. The medium S.I.G. nib is now my "forever" nib inside my Model 66 after several nib trials.

 

Just had to mention this excellent surprise and experience with the Franklin-Christoph company. They take care of their customers.

 

P.S. - has anyone seen their Garnet color on the 66? Amazing...

A month ago I bought a pen with a needlepoint nib. The nib would write ok at first; after half a page it started to have trouble. Like it was ink-starved; finer and finer line, less and less ink until it wouldn't write at all.

 

I emailed them about it, told them a few things I'd tried, and asked for advice. They gave me two things to try, I did them both - now the pen is back in service without a problem. Best part - the last part of their note was the simple instruction 'if this doesn't make it work, send it to us and we'll make it right".

 

I now have three pens and four nibs from them with little doubt that I'll be back for more.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy.
