Out Comes The Orange Ink...

I've disliked almost every orange that I've tried except Lamy Orange.

Sorry to hear that. None of these ever strike your fancy? Not even Kinmokusei or Fire Opal?

Please tell me you added that to the orange thread?????

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Just wrote out a quick grocery list with Diamine Golden Honey, really enjoying this ink, as well behaved as the rest of the 150th anniversary line!

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! Please PM me!For Sale: TBA

That's an impressive collection of orange inks!

It's not quite orange, but every time I write with Diamine Sepia I feel more and more the autumn season settling in.

That's a fantastic picture, thank you Halloween for posting it! :notworthy1:

Well I don't have a single orange ink in my stash but of course it now officially has to change.

So far: I have a number of Iroshizukus but for some reason was never quite moved by their oranges. I had set my sights on Fire Opal for I saw great shading on it somewhere, but it looks dark here.

My favourites on this picture: Sailor Kin Mokusei, Diamine Golden Honey and Herbin Orange indien.

To be continued...

Wrote orange inks off as impractical, but I like Montblanc Lucky Orange which is quite legible, practical and cheerful too being a brilliant orange. Liking orange inks more now.

Excellent choices, in my opinion. I would also suggest looking at Noodler's Habanero and, if you can find it, KWZ Monarch.

As for Fire Opal, it is on the darker side of orange, but not as dark as in the photo due to the lighting. It's complex (it hits that perfect point where brown, orange, and red all meet), and it's well-behaved.

Happy orange adventures!

WONDERFUL! Nice selection of inks and pens!

I have not seen Diamine Inferno Orange before. Is it really as similar to Autumn Oak as it appears in the photo, or is it a trick of the light?

Thanks for the visuals, Jan.

I have been using and enjoying Autumn Oak for many years, so I know that ink fairly well. I did like the shimmering inks for a while, but I must have overdosed on them, because now they really don't get used with much frequency. Nowadays, I only use a couple of shimmering inks on a permanent basis (Emerald of Chivor, Rouge Hématite) —and I usually don't shake the bottle and leave the shimmer particles at the bottom.

Hi Halloween,

It is a trick of the light, which was wonderfully orange, and totally suitable.

The Autumn Oak is a tad darker / browner than the Inferno Orange.

Inferno is of course one of the Shimmer inks, but seen front on, it's a nice bright orange without the sparkles. Also, the Night Sky and Red Lustre are Shimmer inks.

I would have tried for some sort of comparison for you, but the day has been VERY gloomy.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China. With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters. Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed. And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments.. I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
