Is Aurora Buying Delta? Or.. What Is This?

Today, I see this on Instagram.

Aurora is saying that this is 'collection O' Sole Mio', but isn't this just Dolce Vita?

I know that Doce Vita cannot monopolize 'Black & Orange' color match, but it's too much alike to my eye.

Aurora bought Nettuno and Firma in the past. Maybe Aurora is buying Delta, too?

Nope!

Aurora has been usin' this orange material since...hmmm...1999 when the Optima Sole Limited Edition was introduced....

again in 2013 with the Mar Ionio Limited Edition....and in 2016 Sole 88 LE.....Perhaps more?

Yes, I do own Sole and Ionio. :) I love them.

But in the picture, the orange color is much richer than previous Aurora's orange barrels.

It's closer to the Dolce Vita. Maybe that's the matter of the saturation of the photo.

However, this black-orange marble style was like a symbol of Dolce Vita.

(Yes, there were Hemingways and some more, but still...)

I wonder why Aurora is launching 'O' Sole Mio', when they already have 'Sole'.

I love Aurora, but this seems a bit awkward.

Well the departure of Delta has leaved an empty space, problably Aurora decided to try to enter in that space.

By the way the pen is beautiful, and maybe better than the Dolcevita.

It looks like an Optima with just a different colour scheme. Considering that the Aurora Optima Sole limited edition was introduced a long time ago, this one would be a good replacement. Perhaps then I can forget about the old model (if this one indeed uses the same "Sole" material).

Wow, I'm kinda surprised.

I myself am also a fan of Italian pens including Aurora, but really guys?

When you first saw that picture, you thought of Optima, not Dolce Vita?

We will have to learn more, but even if it does seem similar it's not like Aurora can't point to its past (as has been noted here already) to justify the design. I also don't see what the big point is -- Aurora's a better brand anyway.

Other companies have used that orange "terracotta" resin before. Yafa has used it in a Conklin All-American as well as in the new Duragraph Orange Nights. I seem to remember Engeika had a house-branded pen with a similar material a few years back.

If Delta is gone, and I am a big Delta fan, I'd happily use a similar material from another brand as long as it's a quality pen.

I believe this orange resin "Dolce Vita" material is more widely available and not just exclusive to Delta. I have an old Grifos made from the exact same material.

But honestly, clear1, I don't know how you can mistake the Aurora O' Sole Mio with the Delta Dolce Vita - my first impression when I opened that IG link that you posted, is an Aurora Optima with an orange resin barrel, and black end cap and section.

Well, the black+gold+orange surely looks similar to the Dolce Vita... but it's not like Delta, or anyone, had an exclusive right to use that combination of colors...

I thought of Delta right away too, and also commented on it. It is clearly orange, not the yellow color of the Sole. It seems to me that they are trying to erase that connection by calling it 'sole'. Personally i think it is in bad taste to use this color scheme when Delta has just gone out of business. Also I don't like the gold and orange combo--it looks gaudy to me.

I know Delta doesn't own this color combination, but it was so identified with the company, and since they are both Italian companies out of only three major Italian pen companies maybe, it is impossible not to think of them. Anyway, I love Aurora but I loved the Delta design better. They should have shown more restraint and waited a few years before jumping on the orange...

I also feel it’s clearly a (junior) Dolce Vita and while Delta may not own exclusivity of the material or design any more than Montblanc does black resin, this does little fo make me fond of Aurora and may appear intended for those trying to find Dolce Vita pens before they vanish or who are understandably reluctant to pay the premiums they will now require.

Then again I’m not sure what waiting awhile to introduce the model for those interested accomplishes either and I’d rather know those interested are paying reasonable prices if this fills the desire over premiums to eBay sellers.

This will probably be more expensive than the actual Delta Dolcevita... so I'm not sure that rationale would make sense.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
