Pics: Bexley Day At Central Oh Pen Club

We all know the line "Build it and They Will Come". But who knew that you could also simply "Say it and They Will Come"?

All we said was "Howard Levy", and come they did. Bexley Day with special guest Howard Levy led to strong turnout at the most recent meeting of the Central Ohio Pen Club, as our members were treated to a stimulating discussion on "25 Years of Bexley Pens" along with a display of many of Howard's creations.

Despite a nasty cough, Howard kept the audience in rapt attention as he related his experiences in all facets of Bexley Pens including design, engineering, manufacturing, materials, marketing and distribution, and even the naming of Bexley models as well as why the Bexley Pen Company is actually in Columbus rather than Bexley. I loved it when Howard related that he liked playing with pens, and fortunately has a job where he can do so - sometimes seven days a week and twelve or sixteen hours a day!

Here's the man himself, looking a whole lot better than he apparently felt that day

Howard brought a few pens with him. I believe this case held all the various "Owners' Club" models Bexley has made over the years.

Please don't ask me to name all the different Bexley models Howard showed us. I can't even remember what I had for breakfast! But there were a few current production pieces that Howard brought to show us.

I didn't realize that Bexley also made school pens. What kid could resists one of these?

Our members also brought their own Bexleys for the regular "Show and Tell" portion of our meeting. Here are two beautiful "Cutting Edge" pen and knife sets.

Lots more Bexleys. Again, I can't possibly remember the model names. Can you?

Bexley Sheherezade set of Fountain Pen and Roller Ball. This pen is a bit different than most Bexleys - it is a piston filler. How come I can remember this model's name? Oh yeah - it's mine!

And still more from our members.

As always, everyone had a great time playing with each other's toys after Howard's presentation

Wow, those are lovely pens.

The Cutting Edge pen was being produced just around the time I started developing a real interest in collecting. At the time, I had no idea that it was going to be a limited run, so I didn't buy one even though it was near the top of my list. Had I know what I know now, I would have snagged one in a second.

That was great of Howard Levy to drop by; it must have been a great experience!
Thanks for posting these,

D.

These are some very nice pens, I do like the variety of colors! Thanks for posting these photos.

Unfortunately, no more Bexley pens for me. I contacted Howard Levy recently with a concern about my pen and the tone of his response made me decide not to do any more business with him in the future. I am glad to see that you guys had a good time though. :)

I knew I forgot something this weekend. Sounds like you all had a blast, see you at the pen show and the next meeting!

Shame I missed it! This is my busy season. And I even have a new Bexley pen to show off, too :)

I'm definitely going to the pen show. Hope to see you all then.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
