I am not sure but from what others have said that when they order it from outside websites they end up paying a lot of money on customs and you have to wait for a long time. But if you order it from amazon you will get your product for sure while if you order it from outside it may get lost.

Make sure you are buying it from amazon.in (India).

That's what I have to say. The decision is yours.

Hope you will be happy with whatever you get.

I bought from Japanese sellers on eBay many times and in my opinion it is good as Amazon. But I always pay using PayPal so that my money is protected in case anything goes wrong. I never had any problems from Japanese sellers, but a couple of times packages were lost/ not delivered and money was refunded. Most of the Japanese sellers send by ems which is trackable and reach within 2 weeks normally. Regarding the customs duty, it is purely based on your luck. Sometimes customs duty (around 30 percent of the declared value) will be charged and sometimes not. But even with customs duty, my pen prices from Japan was always less than the Indian local prices.

Forgot to add one more thing. If you buy from an eBay seller, please check the feedback of seller and it will give you an idea about the seller. I always buy from someone with a rating of 99 or more.

I agree amazon is very expensive. I am an indian who lives in kuwait and fountain pen shops are like non existent in the place i live in. But US retailers the shipping is like 30 plus dollars but we dont have to pay any customs duty or taxes. Only problem is that kuwaits postal service is not fast. I had ordered from cult pens in uk and when i contacted them and so on, the product took 5 days from uk to kuwait, but SIXTEEN days to reach my house.

And also dont forget to ask questions and all the questions you can to the seller before buying it. Its better to make sure and prepare than to take the extra hassle of returning it by not being very sure.

While at a trip to india i went to william penn and bought a lamy al star for like 4 thousand rupees and the safari is 2700 rupees but if i were to order from uk shipped to my kuwait address the al star would be cheaper than the safari in india. Where are the taxes in india rising up to.

Haha taxes and import duties..

Indian govt. gives relief to only those companies who are manufacturing in india..

Plus fountain pen community in india is nt that connected as in US or other countaries..

Hopefully things will change for good..

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
