Here it is... a somewhat short review, with rather a lot of pics to tell the story. Rushing round Daiso, on the way out, noticed something somewhat familiar on the way to the checkout, snagged it for leisurely consideration later...

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you, the Rosso Bianco!

Nice sturdy matte black cardboard box.

It says 'RB' for Rosso Bianco on the clip, see! And Rosso Bianco on the band!

Comes with a slim cartridge, black, not b-b as it says on the box, of a variety I've never seen before. Might I guess it bears a passing resemblance to... a Jinhao cartridge?

But does it do what it says on the tin (box)?

Nice spot! I love exploring Daiso to see what they have at the moment. It's been anything from a really nice low-end Sailor to a no-name Chinese pen that also was quite a nice writer to ... now this!

So, if I understand correctly,it is a jinhao x750 with an EF nib? I NEED one of those because the x750s body Is great but I hate broad nibs.

Just buy a nemosine EF or knox or goulet EF nib. You're spoiled for choice when it comes to #6 nibs.

I personally think that red and gold finish on the 450/750 is one of my favorite fountain pen finishes ever, right up there with stacked celluloid used in my vacumatic and my old visconti divina metro.

I can't post a picture just now, but I grabbed a nice-looking Daiso pen yesterday, and researching it I find that it is a rebranded (or clone of?) a Jinhao 156, with sleek bullet shape, shiny black finish, and spring clip. It's a nice weight and feel, with a metal body and fine "RB" nib.

It came with one black cartridge, I think the Jinhao type - can I use a standard converter?

The line skips a little, how can I fix that?

Make sure you flush the pen with soapy water. Often these cheaper pens have a little manufacturing oil that makes them skippy.

Yes, it uses a standard international converter.

That worked like a charm! Thank you.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
