you can't quantify 'too many'. it's all different for different individuals.

 

i think it is safe to say you have too many when:

- you got another one of the same pen that you already have because you forgot that you already have one.

- you lack storage space.

- you have pens that you don't get to use within a year, despite your effort to rotate the use of your pens on regular basis.

- you keep pens that you don't like/use.

 

i go by these rules to know when to downsize my collection.
