Honest question: Those who have multiple bottles, do you actually use up all that ink? I ask because I am a serial ink changer, and bottles I've had for over a decade barely look like I've used them at all. It's hard for me to be loyal enough to one color to use a complete bottle, let alone more!

Good question. I've never bought multiple bottles. (I've never tried Lamy Dark Lilac, but it sounds addictive so maybe just as well.) However, even though I've purchased many different types of ink, I do use a lot of certain colors and have actually used up some bottles while others just sit there. I guess certain colors really work for me, and I should consider giving the other ones away. I have been leaning away from the noodler's 3 oz bottles since I prefer a smaller bottle of ink that I might possibly finish some day.

Although I have enough ink to last several lifetimes, I did buy 3 bottles of Lamy Dark Lilac. Now I am down to 2 1/4 bottles. I also bought 2 more bottles of Private Reserve Midnight Blues last week, as my only bottle is almost empty and I was terrified I’d run out of it and not be able to get anymore.

I just bought 2 more bottles of Petrol.

Originally purchased 14 bottles at release from Goulet's. Then added 2 more bottles found at a pen shop during my travels. Now I only have 1 bottle as the others were given away and/or sold off. With the realization that I have too much ink and too many pens, I've been downsizing all year. Also have 6 packages of carts for when the Dark Lilac needs to travel 😃.

Still have about 15 bottles of Montblanc JFK and 4 of their Willim Shakespeare along with dozens of other ink bottles.

I got one of the last bottles from Lamy US. When I tried to order a second bottle the next day, they were permanently sold out.

While I do have multiples of some inks, lately I've been sticking to one and just doing my best to ration it. Of the LE Lamy inks, I have one Neon Coral (which I adore), one Copper Orange, one Dark Lilac, and one Petrol. I do have some cartridges of the Neon Coral, plus the LEs I was dubious about, like Charged Green and Neon Lime.

Back in the day I saw a sample of it, thought it looked fantastic because I was in a purple kind of mood, and bought two bottles when it was easy to find. I use it regularly.

I bought two bottles, sight unseen, only because it was so hard to get and I figured if I really, really liked it, I'd use two bottles no trouble. I like it alright, but probably not two bottles worth. I'm trying to figure out whether I should just give it away to someone who is rabidly for Dark Lilac or parcel it out in sample vials, or trade it for something I have more use for. A full bottle of Diamine Twilight might save me from having to purchase one. Drop me a line if interested.

When the ink was readily available, I bought one. I'm very glad I have this one, and have no compulsion for multiple bottles.

This was released during a time in my life where I couldn't pay attention to the fountain pen world.

I'd be interested in trading for a bottle or two.

I have a pack of cartridges that I've yet to use. Unlike Petrol, of which I have a full (unused) bottle and a pile of cartridges, Dark Lilac appears to melt away when encountering a water droplet, so I consider it a risky ink for my writing. I wash my hands too many times a day due to having pets, etc.

1 bottle. Hope ink companies make more decent inks like this and not diluted coloured waters. Lamy should make this a regular production.

I have the Limited Edition Lamy Safari in Dark Lilac (EF nib) plus a bottle of the matching ink. I don't use them often (they're not my favourites).

The bottles of ink on eBay are listed for more than $100 – do they actually sell for that much?

The pens I saw were all from China. Anyone know what the real thing is worth?

I got a couple of sample vials from a friend. Also got a bottle of Petrol the same way.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
