Diamine Dark Forest

It seems Diamine enjoys celebrating its anniversary. This year they added another eight inks to their line of 150th anniversary inks.

The inks are sold in nice and quitye comfortable in use triangular bottles.

Dark Forest is an interesting ink. While I'm not sure if I enjoy this particular hue, it's deffinitely not your usual green or blue/green. The ink has good properties although if you seek for a water resistant writing fluif, it's not the one. Look elsewhere. The flow is good in both fine abd broad nibs. Level of lubrication and saturation is satisfying.

On some paper (Tomoe River) sheen is visible.

Thank you for your always honest & thorough review. The inks resemblance to Lamy Petrol is uncanny & should serve as a suitable replacement for anyone who was not able to purchase a bottle. It is not a shade I would want multiple variations of, blue greens are not might first thought, when choosing ink to fill my pen.

Thanks for this review, vis. It did remind me of Petrol in the Oxford samples, though more on the green side. What sort of show/bleed did you encounter?

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

This seems like the sort of color you could pass off as serious (which is great), so the lack of any water resistance is disheartening.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Thanks for a great review!

Now I have 2 interesting inks to look out for... Dark Forest and Lamy Petrol....

You can't always get what you want... but if you try sometimes... you just might find... you'll get what you need...

Well, vis, thanks to you I'm out another $16. Not that I'm complaining - the majority of my ink purchases have been due to your (and sakia_mannings') reviews and you've rarely steered me wrong, so thanks.

This seems like a slightly lighter, and thus more obviously green, Miru-ai. I held off for several days but, in the end, just couldn't resist ordering a bottle.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm once again indebted to you, vis. Been using it for several days now and it's really nice. Diamine's done a good job with this one.

This is a Gateway-Green. I'm don't typically have a preference for green, but this one is breaking down those barriers : P

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
