Esterbrook Cartridge Replacement

BernieC

Recommended Posts

I have two Esties that require a cartridge. They both have used cartridges but they are starting to wear and soon will be leaking.

Does anyone know of a replacement for the Esterbrook cartridge or a converter that can be used. I know the originals are difficult to find.

Thanks for any clues.

BernieC

I currently fill the originals using a syringe.

Esterbrook cartridges can sometimes be found on ebay.

I have also heard some folks report success with Sheaffer cartridges, depending on which Esterbrook pen (I believe it is a very tight fit in the barrel.)

I keep an eye on eBay but so far no luck.

Sheaffer carts will work but very hard to remove.

Thanks for the info.

Look at how the cartridge fits into the barrel.

If you have enough clearance around the cartridge, you can make a bulb filler.

  • Cut the cartridge about 1/4-3/8 inch beyond the section.
  • Shellac an ink sac on the cartridge.

ac12 thanks for the suggestion and I will give it a try.

Although using the syringe seems to be working for me for now.

Cheers

I used shellac to secure an ink sac into the section of one of these.

I used a Lamy cartridge in another.

I am more likely to use a Phaeton, which I bought with a working converter.

Some other ebay cartridge offerings and a cartridge pen with 2 cartridges.

I am exercising restraint from buying the pen. $24.99 from a seller I know to be good.

I have purchased many pens from the seller of the wonder writer.

If you bought the pen, would you put it into service, or keep it on the card?

I would leave it on the card for a long while while agonizing about using it. I rarely use Esterbrooks these days. Too many pens. Most of them are dustables.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
