Black Ballpoint

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm looking for the impossible , a really Black ballpoint refill, with dark and deep colour but bold and consistent, not like a fussy rollerball.I think that that is possibile only with easyflow refills such as Visconti Smartouch, that is smooth and dark, excellent, but are there other ballpoints with such a dark line? I've read that Parker golden touch was good but was it deep black too?And now does something similar exist in production? Thank You all

I second the Parker Quinkflow. Very dark and smooth. On some papers, I couldn't tell if I wrote with a gel or ballpoint. On other papers, it stands out from the others.

In the US, Staples sells their own brand of Parker-style refills that I find to be very black and pretty smooth. But I think they're a bit inconsistent because one refill I have seems to outperform all my other Parker-style refills - but I think they need a break-in period (weird).

Interestingly, every now and then when I buy a ballpoint from China, their Parker-style refills are amazing. They usually come without any branding on the refill, and they fit all my Parker-style pens with no problem, but they just glide across the page with a brilliant depth of blackness. I wish I could find out where I can order those from on a regular basis, because they seem to be the best I've ever tried.

I no longer own any fountain pens... Now they own me.

Thank You, I have tried the quink or quinkflow I don't remember but It was much more grey than black, like a pencil! Perhaps It was old or a production error, or perhaps the italian version is awful! I mean the traditional ballpoint not the gel.The golden touch is now out of production and unfindable , It should have been very dark, maybe some of You can tell me. So I keep searching for the quinkflow?

Hi, Here is a sample of what I have in ballpoints.

Other than these ballpoints, I would say to try the new PaperMate Gel pens, or the Pilot G2, or the Pentel Energel (Gel X), although I would say these are rollerball pens, not 'ballpoints' as such.

Good!It seems that the last three are the darkest.Have You tried levengerer ballpoint refill? It's said to be smooth. About chinese Parker Style refills, there are some that are really dark, the issue is to find the brand maybe starting from a engraved code or similar

So I look for staples refills, and what is that chinese pen manufacturer? He surely knows who his supplier is and finding the latter can lead to a real bargain!

  • 2 weeks later...

I have found the best results with large tipped ballpoints pens, such as the Papermate Flexgrip Elite (that comes in 1.6 - should be B or XB?)

Keep in mind you'll burn through each refill considerably faster than what you would with a medium point.

Yes I usually use The Flexgrip because it is very smooth too.BP broad parker style refills as, for example, the Faber Castell extra broad 1.4 , are equally dark?

I cannot praise enough the Faber Castell refills. Although I never tried the XB option, I dabbled with the M and B, and both were very satisfying to me.

Papermate stick pen, or BiC crystal.

Auf freiem Grund mit freiem Volke stehn.
Zum Augenblicke dürft ich sagen:
Verweile doch, du bist so schön !

Thank You.About Faber Castell refills, I guess the XB would be smooth , but is the ink colour dark enough? Because there are several BP that are smooth but whith a pale line , but that's really disappointing

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
