Recommend Me A Demonstrator

Stu L

Recommended Posts

I'd like to add a Chinese pen to my collection and I'd quite like a demonstrator that's a piston fill or that I can eyedropper.

Front runner is the wing sung 698 so far, but what are some other options I should consider?

Thanks

Caliarts Ego-2 all clear version, that's about as much a demonstrator as it goes , the new Wing Sung 618 certainly made a different and interesting one too

What's the difference between the Caliarts Ego and the Ego-2?

The Ego 2 has a clear piston and piston mechanism with white O rings, whereas the original one had a black piston, black piston mechanism with red (and extra black) O rings. Finials can be had in any colour among a few options. The clip has gone from a curvy one to a faceted clip with straight lines.

I'm a big fan of both the Wing Sung 698 and the Wing Sung 618.

Currently in rotation: Wing Sung 698/Diamine Blue Velvet, Wing Sung 618/Diamine Golden Oasis, Lamy Profil 80/Pelikan Edelstein Aventurine

> Caliarts Ego-2 all clear version

There are offers @ 11.49 USD in Aliexpress at the moment - 5 days to go.

They have 0.35mm (F) and 0.5mm (M) nib sizes.

If you buy via mobile app, it becomes 11.32 USD.

OK, OK, it is easier than it looked. Nevertheless, I am going to keep it for some time on a thick paper towel.

* The nib writes very smooth.

* Looking through the ink is a beautiful view - I am using Pelikan 4001 Turquoise at the moment.

The ordered Caliarts Ego-2 just arrived (see above). The seller added for each pen a replacement feed and nib.

The filling system looks a bit better than that of the WingSung 618.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
