Easily Available Fp Friendly Pocket Notebooks?

I used Moleskine for years, and they're extremely FP unfriendly. Shinola out of Detroit makes beautiful books, problem is that the paper is the most FP unfriendly paper I've seen in years- even Diamine Registrar's in a fairly dry Ahab bleeds and feathers. All I have access to is Staples and Officemax for brick and mortar.

Any ideas on a good A4 or thereabouts pocket notebook that would be reasonably cheap? I go through a ton of paper, and can't justify $10 for something that may last a week.

Half-sheet is perfectly fine. That's my size for the B&R, but the coil binding makes it not fit in my white coat pockets.

Dollar Tree used to have packages of three mini-composition books with paper from India. One dollar. Not elegant, but they worked.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

I've been using a large Midori planner and notebook with their sturdy leather cover, for the past 3 years. The paper is extremely FP friendly. I bought mine from Goulet pens, but they are also available in Amazon.

The system is very versatile, you can put a planner in it then a grid, lined, or plain notebook in one cover. Mine is set up with a planner and a plain notebook, but I have varied the combination with my planner from time to time.

if no joy at Dollar Tree, then you might consider slipping an 8x5 whitelines junior legal pad at 2.65 in a cover. (no coil)

the paper is by far sturdier than discontinued bagasse and ink friendly

I like you idea. Would you have suggestions for a cover? Thank you.

If you want a great tiny notebook, consider the midori's and anything with TR paper. I tried the Alwych and wasn't really impressed. I really like the Life ntebooks.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Okay, I confess, as a gift I received a subscription to Evil Supply Company and every month they send me a new notebook with FP friendly paper and a really funny / tasteless saying on the outside.

You might check out any of the Gibson notebooks often carried at Walgreen's. I have found their paper to be fp friendly.

If you don't mind ordering, I would recommend sending an email to Steve Curnow of Curnow Bookbinding and Leatherworks (on facebook) or looking at Vanness's Web site for Curnow notebooks. They are generally fp friendly. You can also get a Tomoe River paper version.

I will be checking out the "Evil Supply Company" today. I like the idea of sending someone a subscription to Evil Supply Company where every month a new notebook is sent with "a really funny / tasteless saying on the outside". Thank you, Amberleadavis, I too practice to be better. The thought of someday being great would likely give me nose bleed. :^)

If buying online meets your specifications, then consider Goulet Pens' pocket notebooks with Tomoe River paper. Side-stapled, heavy cardstock cover. Blank, dot, lined, grid; a few different small and smallish sizes.

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

No affiliation with Goulet other than being a happy many time customer. Thus, I second Bookman.

"FP friendly paper", did you say? I ask because, while I love Evil Supply Company, when I got some of their magnificently whimsical notebooks awhile back (at least a year; quite possibly more), I found them to be really, really not friendly with my fountain pens. If that state of affairs has changed, I'm going to be dropping quite a large stack of these onto my family's upcoming Halloween order (to go with the wonderful stickers, patches, and other loot).

Moleskine notebooks get a lot of "great press". Both my brothers got me some for my birthday. They are nicely made. I find the paper "raggy", and not fp friendly. I get the "Dollar Tree" composition notebooks, whenever I can. They are miniatures of the big Composition notebooks. About 4 x 3, they are nice pocket size. At 34¢, they are very convenient.

Are you certain that you want "A4" ? A4 is 8.3 x 11.7 inches. Not exactly "pocket size". A5 approx. 6 x 8. A6 is approx. 4 x 6. Two years ago, I caught A6 size Clairefontaine notebooks on sale, at Gouletpens. I bought a couple dozen. They are excellent. (The Tootsie Roll Pop was grape.)

My dimensions are approximate because the "A" system is metric. A4 is actually 210 mm x 297 mm .

That is HILARIOUS!

I have a couple of pocket notebooks from the Unemployed Philosphers' Guild which aren't too bad. They have a line of "passports" (passport sized pocket notebooks, but to places like Narnia, Area 51, Neverland and Oz ;)). Not super cheap, but I can buy them locally in a stationery store/novelty shop here in Pittsburgh (which also carries some fountain pens and Skrip and Aurora ink). I also have some of the Dollar Tree mini composition books that Sailor Kenshin mentioned (they are really cheap, and hold up better than the thicker ones from Staples because the Staples ones the paper is just glued into the spine -- I have one of the Staples ones, currently in use for keeping track of expenses, and not only is it rubber banded together, but I have the loose pages paper clipped together...).

I also have some really nice FP friendly-paper notepads made by Miquelrius, which have top glued pages that are perforated. They were freebies (apparently tossed in to fill out the box when I bought a bunch of their 300 page flexible cover journals a couple of years ago). Not sure of the normal price of them (you'd have to check their website).

ETA: Thanks for tipping me off about Evil Supply -- I just looked at their website and there are a couple of notebooks I really need to buy at some point..... :D

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

The new subscriptions aren't going to have patches which is a bummer. I have almost enough for my jacket. Instead of wearing them while riding a Harley, I'm going to have a custom jacket when I ride my grown up tricycle.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
