Hi Everyone!

Hey Everyone!

I just recently created my first account on the Fountain Pen Network. As you can probably tell, I am a very avid fountain pen enthusiast -- but I'm not afraid to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. I'm currently a junior in high school, and hope to major in astrophysics in college (particularly in particle cosmology).

I'm really exited to be a part of the FPN community, and am looking forward to all that it entails!

Regards,

Raptorfan (that's not my actual name, in the off chance anyone was wondering)

Welcome home. Pull up a stump and set a spell. Remember everything we find is astrophysics will be outside our comfort zone; particularly in particle cosmology.

Welcome, Raptorfan !

Which fountain pens do you have ? The smooth, light-touch writing of a fountain pen was a major positive to my class note taking in college. For long writing sessions, are you more comfortable with thinner or fatter pens.

Are you a fan of contemporary raptors, or the "ancient" ones ?

By the way, I not really a multi-colored, yellow-beaked bird.

Enjoy your time here.

Welcome Raptorfan, from North Carolina! I too am curious to hear what pens you are using.

Thank you all so much for your kind words!

I currently have only a Lamy Al-Star medium nibbed, but I used to have several low-end Parkers (2 vectors, 1 IM and 1 Frontier) and a wayward Hero 600. I unfortunately don't have these anymore because I lost a few (I started my collection when I was in 5th grade) and my sister broke a few. I am saving up right now so I can purchase a Lamy 2000 in the near future.

I was also looking to purchasing one of Lamy's bi-color gold nibs (the Z57 to be precise) to slip on my Al-Star. Do you think that would work?

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
