Hi All

I have ordered a Pilot Metal Falcon from JAPAN through ebay.com. It cost me $187+$16=$203(around RS 13700)

It is being delivered through EMS speed post.

This is my first import, I have no clue about what will be the custom duty for the pen.

I was not aware of the Gift clause, so I did not marked this item as gift.

Moreover I had to ship this item to my friend's address as Japan EMS is not available in my pin code.

Could any one help regarding custom duty for this pen.How the custom duty will be calculated after GST, and the payment procedure.

I am worried by reading some post's from different source in internet. They said, I have to visit custom office for clearance.

Are there be any complication, as I have shipped it in my friend's address?

:( :(

If custom duty is changed, you will have to pay it to the postman in cash at the time of delivery. Amount will depend upon your luck. Since you have shipped to your friend's address, if your friend receives any letter from custom office, he can claim that it is a gift from you and produce proof that payment is done by you and not by him.

If it can be shown that the item is a gift, value of gift upto Rs20000 is exempt. The challenge here is that such gifts should have been received from abroad ( from persons staying abroad). So if your friend sticks to showing it as such, then no problem. Otherwise the customs could be approx 40% plus a penalty of minimumRs 2000. You keep tracking, normally a letter is received through the postman who delivers the packet.

Thank You... :) :)

Yesterday I have received my pen. No problem regarding custom clearance  . They have charged 2193 as custom duty(I think this is due to the item marked as gift.) Overall Cost is arround 15500(in India this cost is arround 24K :excl: :excl: ) :D

The pen is awesome.. I have ordered fine nib. Nib is smooth with little bit feedback. For better line variation one should bough SEF nib i think. I have plan to publish a detailed review.

The SEF is somewhat stiffer and has a lot more feedback. For what little line variation there is you're better off with the SF.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
