What Omas Pens Have You Acquired After The Company Closed And How?

Hello everyone,

I've only started getting into OMAS pens after the company went under and after writing with one...

I just love their soft, mushily smooth nibs

I have an Ogiva Alba, from the classifieds section. It's a lovely writer, in a lovely purple.

"Oh deer."

Every Omas I bought was after they shut down. It all started a year ago at the San Francisco pen show with a 360 Burkina housing a BB CI from Mottishaw. The most recent was a new Paragon in dark Burgundy from the Fashion Colors set years ago.

I am getting ready to sell some off after overbuying though.

My only post-shutdown OMAS purchase was a new style Paragon in Arco brown, bought from Sarj at the DC show last year. I had Mike Masuyama tune the fine nib, and it's a magnificent writer.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

Two from the Classifieds here - new style Paragon Noir and "regular" 360 (piston-filling, black, HT)

One from Fountain Pen Hospital - (new style) Paragon Ludovico - FPH was probably the last retailer to have any stock of this pen left that I could find.

It's funny, the Omas pens I've gravitated towards are typical "handsome but modest," whereas most seem to go for the over-the-top (but gorgeous) materials Omas was known for.

I have ten (mostly Paragons, couple of Milords), but all bought before troubles arose. Thankfully, Kenro helped me with some nib exchanges prior to the 'dark time' too.

It is impressive how many of these nice pens some members have collected.

I had much more before the company went under, sold most after by coincidence when I decided to thin the collection.

The only criterion was and still is to let go the pens that I don't get to use if I am not attached to them for some reason.

Sold a few Paragons, an Ogiva, an Alma Mater and a 360 (regretted that sale after).

Purchased an orange AM87 and a Ribbed HT Ogiva and stop, those are the two that I'm keeping.

Looking to replace the (practically Broad) M nib for a Fine on the HT Ogiva.

Current modern daily users: Montegrappa Miya, Omas AM87, S.T.Dupont D-Line, Stipula Etruria Tuscany Dreams, Tibaldi Modello 60.

Current vintage daily users: Aurora 98p, Big Red Lucky Curve, MB622, P51, P75, Pelikan NN400.

All of mine (7 I think) were aquired after I learned of their demise. They were out of my price range but I had been wanting some Omas pens for awhile. Kept telling myself, "One day." Once I learned the company folded, I knew if I was going to get any, it is now or never.

I bought one new in Amyoko, the "black market" area of Tokyo. My second, purchased on the same day, new at Kingdom Note (KN) All others were purchased used, mostly at KN, or on eBay.

Yeah, the kingdom note prices are amazing, even if they are mostly used pens. But I always seem to miss them and when I check they are sold out already.

I had an Omas Arco brown paragon new style for a whole 3 days.

- sticky piston

- material that doesn't line up

- nib that wouldn't write at all.

Had to return it.

Also, the pen was wayy too shiny for my taste. I liked to look at it but I didn't like it using it, even less so in public.

I know, and I am sorry for resurrecting this thread but I have a confession to make.

I think that you can easily imagine what is it, as I said that I stopped getting Omas pens...

Well, I just got a Colombo II and I am extremely happy about it, mainly as I got it super cheap, but I am also somewhat surprised as it is a bit smaller than my AM87. Naturally, I expected it to be a classical good old big Paragon model pen in Briarwood.

The difference is not that much in the measures (130 mm the Colombo vs the 132 mm of both of my Ogivas measured uncapped) but mainly in the fact that it feels different to me.

The first few pens that I bought were when Omas was seemingly healthy, the pens wrote straight out of the box, butter smooth nibs, superb design etc and I was smitten  . Then came the troubling news and in a hurry to acquire a few more, 3 Paragon LEs (Art Deco - Pearl Grey LE) & 2 miLord wood (Olive and Ebony) sit in their boxes absolutely unused even today . Stunning pens though, beautifully made. O, the Omas stubs are ethereal.

I bought a paragon Art Vision in ruthenium in Paris. Just after a meeting, crossing the street my eyes have seen something... yes ! 3 or 4 very expensive LE and 2 art vision... Got one just because it was impossible to let it in this shop. nice talk with the saleswoman also.

Still giving the hunt to an arco green and an arco brown with the vermeil cap to conclude my collection (according to the criteria of decency more than exhaustivity) of paragon...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
