Parker 51 Demi

Hello ta all,

I am a new member here and have started collecting some pen together with the ones I have inherited form father in law, grand father etc.

I have a 1949 parker 51 demi pen with threaded sac guard and unfortunatelly the connector has a crack and thus needs to be replaced. I have not been able to find one on the web and have been wondering if there are any other connectors from other types of parker or HERO (616, 21, 17 etc.) that may match and can be used.

Thanking in advance for any guidance and help

Best regards

Costas

+1 on Ernesto. I got this very part for my demi from him.

try Dale Beebe at pentooling.com . He's on his way to the SF Pen Show, will likely not respond immediately. He often has a good variety of Parker parts. Highly recommended.

You might search for "parker 51 parts."

I was going to suggest a donor pen, but the prices asked for 51 demi pens today are enough to make me gasp. It's time to sell my small collection.

Five Star Pens has some Parker 51 Special demi pens without the cap, NOS, for $48. I am actually tempted. Since these are NOS, here is a source of a new part, not a used part. Think about it.

Not to labor the obvious, that's a source of a new pen, not just a new part. One can put the cap of the troubled pen on the new Special Demi, and there you are, old cap, new pen. Granted, you lose the thrill of home-workshop activity, but it's a faster fix.

Dear All

following is the update on my effort to repair this parker 51 pen which was actually a full size and not a Demi. The connector on that pen was cracked but the problem was that it was a 1949 made unit with the hood and the barrel with threads to their brim and with a screw on ink sac guard.

Fortunatelly a fine Indian Gentleman, Mr. Sriram of

RAMAKRISHNA PEN WORKS with email : rkpw.77ap@gmail.com made me a brass connector which fitted perfectly and could be used with the new Parker piston filler thus improving the overall performance of the pen. The pen is back in operation mode and thus highly recomend Mr. Sriram for any such repairs on the Parker 51.

If you need any fotos of the connector and how it is fitted on the pen send me an email on my cgpsaras@gmail.com.

So, now you have a C/C version of the 51, de nouveau with the modern converter?

Dear all,

as you can see from the pictures I modified the 1949 Parker 51 by replacing the plastic connector which was cracked by a brass one that Mr. Sriram made for me.

Note that Mr. Sriram also makes such brass connector for the 1950 onwards Parker 51 which have a press on sac guard, not a screw on, and the hood and barrel do not have their threads to their brim. For the 1948 and 1949 made Parker 51 as was mine the threads of the hood and of the barrel go all the way to brim and as such he had to make a new type which now is available for whoever wants to modify their pen as I have. I can vouch for Mr. Sriram he has been great and has done an excellent work as you can see.

By the way this was the original plastic connector so you can see it has a screw on sac guard and has threads all the way to the ring in order to tighten the hood and barrel to the ring since those has their threads to their brim

and as you can see in this picture in the middle is the original plastic connector of my Parker 51 era 1949 , on the left the brass connector which can take the screw piston filler and on the right is the brass connector for the parker 51 but for era 1950 onwards where the hood does not have the threads to the brim and the sac guard is a press on type.

I hope all is clear now

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
