Week #34 / 20 Aug: The Fifth Element - 2017 Weekly Ink Project

Recommended Posts

Choose an ink that represents either air, earth, fire or water. Bonus points for four inks for all four of them! (Thank you migo984 for the idea!)

As usual, don't forget to share with us your choice of ink, your writing, drawing, doodling or anything with the ink in this thread. You can take a photo, make a scan, or even better, write letters and CRV reviews (what is a CRV?) and mail them to the many ink pals here. You are welcome to check back on this thread even when we've gone past this week.

Click here to read more about this community project. Links to the two previous links can be found there too.

Can't get the colors to show quite right (e.g. in real life, the brown is more brown and the "Aurora Bovenalis" looks quite teal)... Ah, well, it's a mess in real life too, so......

EXCELLENT image, Liz!

Alas, I am less creative. I went for a literal interpretation:

Thanks, HalloweenHJB! :) It was fun right up until my TWSBI blurped Oranje Boven all over the mountain, and then I used the same tissue to smear Azure #5, thus turning part of the sky teal... Nice colors in yours - both name and shade appropriate!

Love the shading in that Fireopal, @visvamitra!

Nice drawing, Liz!

Thanks, Lgsoltek!

You might try dipping a cotton swab (Q-Tip) in the ink and "painting" with it —see if that works better for you. Just an idea...

I would have used a water brush, but I was doodling while waiting for a meeting to start, and didn't have any of that with me... ;) Lesson learned - doodle at home, take notes at meetings... (Or maybe bring water brushes to meetings. )

"Week #34 choose an ink that represents either air, earth, fire or water. Bonus points for all 4 of them:"

I almost didn't bother posting this one because mine is so poor by comparison with everyone else's offering, but in the end I decided that something was better than nothing. So here is my lacklustre effort. :(

Oh and I can't write with a brush :(

Great one! Really like the way you visualized the theme.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
