Ductus Is My Best Pen

Recommended Posts

I have been using Pelikan Ductus with F nib for about a week. And contrary to the view of most penlovers, I feel Ductus is the best pen in my collection. I have Parker Duofold--both Centennial and International, Waterman Edson, Montblanc 144 Solitaire and 146R, Sheaffer Legacy, Visconti Opera etc in my collection. But for past few days, I am being drwan to Ductus spontaneously for longer hours of writing. Its extremely well built, looks royal and I find its girth optimal for me. Its also very balanced posted or unposted. I like medium nibs but Ductus F produces lines like a medium nib. And its smoothness is just unparallel.

I think many who have used Ductus will be of the same opinion. I found the filling system very convenient and as the nib can be unscrewed, cleaning is also very very easy. Overall a real master.

I'm very glad to read you are happy with your Ductus.

Over the years very few here bought one, much less raved about one.

In it is against my wallet's religion to buy new, and it was metal I never really thought of buying one. I have read they are well balanced.

What sort of nib, regular flex like a 200? Semi-nail like a modern 400/600, a nail like an 800?

Or semi-flex like a 1000?

We have gotten so few posts of the Ductus, I don't know what nib to expect.

Thanks so much. I have not used any other highend Pelikan before, so am unable to compare its with 600, 800 or 1000. People say Edson nibs are naillike, but I enjoy its smoothness. MB 146 provides some feedback and has some flexiblility and I like that too. I would place Ductus nib somewhere in between these two, being more close to Edson. I am charmed the smoothness and wetness. The pen has a real 'masculine' appearance and seems very very well built. Its not going to get scratched or cracked easily. I use all my pens with utmost care though.

I feel the pen is very very underrated beacuse of some unknown reason. Its slightly longer than the Centennial and perhaps 800 also. A superb pen.

I love my Ductus with a M nib, smooth as can be; it glides along the page with an even wet line.

Thanks. I think many if not most are guided by hearsay in buying Pelikans and so such a great pen is underrated.

The ductus is a great pen. It writes very well and has a nice heft to it. The big things that marred it in my opinion were the hefty price tag, the sometimes frustrating cartridge tray, and the nib design. None of these are deal breakers though and it's overall an excellent model if you can get one for a good price.

I love my gold Ductus except for the Bold nib.

It's the most beautiful pen in my collection, without a doubt.

If anyone knows where I can find the silver version, P3100, I'm looking to buy one to have the set, Gold and Silver (or palladium or platinum).

Image shows the Ductus behind my two Cartier Diabolos.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
