Hi.

I am a little confused with some pens.

All pens made in France.

In the first photo the fourth pen is slim.Is a lady pen?

Are the pens Master or Cotele?

I cant found the pen with that clip with marble in the bottom.Which model is?

Also the last pen is Waterman Hemisphere?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Stick with Master cos there is no information, yet, on Cotele.

Third pic is a something, maybe Forme, Ronde

The last pen is a C/F or CF (cartridge filler).

All have the same clip.

Apart from the Waterminia (see Force's post) the others are part of the Forme Ronde series, the Goutte (drop) in particular. Named after the drop form on the clip, I guess.

  • 4 weeks later...

I was sooo happy to see this thread! I have searched though sooo many "help me identify" threads to find this one.

I currently own three of these waterman pens. One is definitely a CF. One is a Master and the other I am not so sure...Please note my photos. The photos are (not in order) all four of the pens I recently obtained, including the 3 watermans and a parker 180 (love this pen). Photo 2 is of the two pens I have questions about side by side capped. Photo 3 is of the two in question taken apart to see all parts. BTW, yes I am a weirdo who loves slim pens...more on that in a later post.

So questions:

1) I was investigating (honestly one of my favorite things about this whole fountain pen addiction) on the interwebs on the two Watermans to learn more and I have figured out that the thicker greenish/black one is a Master. However, I am conflicted on the yellow/brown (orange) one. I went to Ravens March and it seems to be identified as a Super Master (that is what the sale said as well). However Ravens March's example had an entirely different clip. It was more like the clip on the cf. The clips on this one is identical to the clip on the Master. The differences I see between the two are that the orange one is much slimmer, it is a tad longer and it is too small inside to accept the converter that works nicely with the Master. So what is my little orange friend, a Master or a Super Master?

2) What cartridge and or converter will work with my little orange friend. Thank you so very much for all your help in advance.

Shall we call it Tortoise Shell. Yours, in all intents and purposes, is a Super Master and most probably an early one. I believe later ones have the slotted clip which was being used on the Exclusive/Executive models.

Ref the ink tank...I am surprised it will not accept the current Waterman International long cartridge or any converter post 1980. See pic below listing accessories.

My only reservation being that they show bottled ink but no converter.

OUTSTANDING information Thank you so much! I was very confused as EVERY single article showed a pen that was fatter and shorter Plus had different clip. Ok now to find a cartridge or converter. I have a confirmed Master with a cartridge that DOES fit the nib end. However, though it will easily attach to nib end and pen writes with it the base of the pen is too slim to fit over the back side of converter.

I think the pen is a Master only because it is fitted with a C/F side spring converter.

I very much doubt it would fit into the Super Master which is a slimmer barrel.

My first Super Master (which I got new, and so had a sticker telling me the model, hoorah) came with the modern-style twist Waterman converter.

Ernst, you have Super Mastered it :D

I suspect a rogue cartridge or converter is Butrflis problem.

Late reply: Ernst, if I may impose on you, if you still have that Supermaster, a few pictures would be lovely!

I have a gunmetal Supermaster, and it too uses the modern converter.

It's the only thing that will fit in the slim barrel.

An even later reaction! Here it is, in all its cylindrical minimalist glory:

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
