Fountain Pens That Look Like Dip Pen Holders?

Do they exist? One of my constant gripes with fountain pens is that I don't think they are as aesthetically pleasing as dip pens. I am looking for something with a pointed tip (at the opposite side than the writing end), like many dip pen holders have. I've seen some vintage models, but I am looking for something modern. Anything exist?

Sounds like you're looking for a desk pen. Platinum do a nice modern version. Or, there are plenty of vintage jobs around on the 'net.

Thanks! It will help immensely to have a term to look up!

For some reason, the desk pens do not seem to bid up as vintage items as much as the same feed and fill mechanism does in capped pens. There are some really good deals in vintage desk pens out there. I have the cheap Platinum desk pen and it works very well.

Esterbrook and Parker desk pens may meet your needs. And Sheaffer also has some that you might like.

For love of it. And yet not waste time either.

I will definitely take a look at both of these brands.

I really like ebonite ripple and these pens can show it off well.

Indian ebonite is my modern favorite.

These are gorgeous!!

Lamy Joy would be an easy obtainable cheap modern answer to your question.

I'll definitely take a look.

Thanks to all of you. I will look up all these options. I am really enjoying looking into the world of fountain pens. :)

I ordered a vintage Waterman lever desk-pen. It is supposed to be here Tuesday. I'm not entirely sure it still works, and I will need to find a desk holder for it. I will probably get something modern, too; but I really enjoy pens with at least a little flex.

Waterman desk pen is here. Terrible pic, right under the light, and obviously I am not using paper capable of withstanding the ink flow, but I was too excited to search out a pad of good paper.post-138409-0-35599100-1503960241_thumb.jpg

Platinum has a really nice "desk pen" that fits the bill if you like very fine nibs. Here's one at Jet Pens. (no affiliation but have ordered from them before)

Or there's always actual dip pens and a traveling ink pot. :D

Plunger fillers do the trick, just remove the cap and put a banker's pen taper on them.

Bought one used last year, nice office desk stunt with my ancient Duofold Lucky Curve

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
