Rate My Doric Repair.

I recently acquired a Doric with an adjustable nib for quite a deal as it had been chewed on by a dog. I had originally bought it for just the nib but decided to attempt a repair as I had not decided on how I wanted to use the nib.

Once I got it I decided to attempt to rebuild since I was not working on any other pen at the moment. I decided upon using epoxy putty and plastic dye to attempt my rebuild. Once I rebuilt the end I had to re-drill the body of the pen. I got very lucky in tracking down a replacement pressure bar and bar guide?(The piece that goes to the very end of the pen to guide the pressure bar). Once the epoxy dried it was a matter of lots and lots of sanding. Over all it was about about 3-4 hours of work over the course of a week. It still needs to be polished a little bit more but I think it is passable for what it is.

Is this my first rebuild? Yes, I am rather surprised with how well it turned out, I do have some sculpting experience from model making as a hobby which helped me out quite a bit. The hardest bit of the repair was actually tracking down the internals as the dog had mangled the pressure bar and other piece, the levers tabs were also bent but I was able to bend them back, I am not sure how long the tabs will hold as I am sure that the bending weakened them but I don't plan on really selling the pen, I have been hunting for a adjustable nib for a while and after writing with it or a while I really enjoy it.

Those nibs are treasures, so they're worth making an effort to make them useful.

 

I wonder if there's a modern pen that could accommodate that nib?
